Criticality Safety Assessor

And right now, we’re looking for a Criticality Safety Assessor. Based at our Capenhurst location, you’ll use your knowledge of physics and engineering to solve real world technical challenges and ensure the ongoing safety of our unique nuclear facilities.

This role utilises understanding of nuclear physics to inform the design and operation of nuclear facilities. Day-to-day activities range from working in multidisciplinary teams on long-term design projects through to working closely with front line personnel to support routine operations.

What will your day look like?

• Production of Criticality Safety Assessments to time, quality and cost
• Supports Criticality Assessments through UUK Safety Case governance process (Safety Review Group, Independent Peer Review, Management of Safety & Environment Committee (MSEC) and Nuclear Safety & Environment Committee (NSEC).
• Accountable as intelligent customer for external delivery of criticality assessments
• Producing ad-hoc assessments input to Change Modification Proposals (CMPs), advice and guidance to the Site Safety Case Manager in response to events and in support of business improvements.
• Maintaining expert knowledge of the UK Regulatory framework and the implications for UK Licensees.

What do you need to be great at this role?

• Degree relevant to discipline (e.g. Engineering / Science / Mathematics)
• Good understanding of how specialist disciplines input and support the development of a Nuclear Safety Case.
• Broad understanding of the UK Regulatory Framework and Regulator expectations in respect of safety assessments
• Experience of modelling physical systems using computer codes
• Ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts to a range of audiences
• Good analytical skills.
