Senior Mechanical Engineer

4 days on site ideally (can be flexible to 2 – 3 per week if needed)
Job Role:
- To provide the mechanical engineering capability required to design and develop new products and support the readiness and sustainment of our existing products.
- To produce innovative and well-engineered mechanical solutions, underwritten through the use of sound mechanical engineering principles, judgement and appropriate engineering calculation, which assure a viable route to verification and successful test and support the creation of product which conforms to requirement.
Key Responsibilities:
- The generation of mechanical design solutions that support in the creation of product which meets customer requirement, is fully underwritten, approved and documented.
- The preparation and presentation of development plans and strategies, design data packs and other engineering detail for internal and external review.
- The review and approval of mechanical engineering documentation.
- The management, development and delivery of work packages, with ownership and autonomy, to schedule and budget.
- The identification and communication of risk, and the suggestion of de-risk activities.
- The validation and verification of mechanical requirements using appropriate tools (preferably DOORS) and managing these throughout the engineering life cycle.
- Working collaboratively with engineers and specialists within multi-disciplined teams.
- Managing the efforts of supporting engineers and technicians, taking responsibility for their output, and where required, tracking the completion of their work against schedule and budget.
- Peer reviewing the work of other mechanical engineers and technicians.
- Support the efforts of fellow engineers, team leads, project leads and functional managers.
Key Attributes:
Essential:
- Competent in the use of CAD tools, 3D parametric model creation, specifically in CREO.
- Good communicator, well organised and able to work with multiple stakeholders.
- Experienced in the communication and selling of design intent through presentation.
- Experienced in the communication of part and assembly detail through engineering drawing. Specifically to standard (preferably BS8888/ASME Y14.100) and an understanding of dimensional tolerance control, tolerance analysis and GD&T.
Desirable:
- Experienced in the design and development of any of the following; electronic systems, optical systems, mechatronic systems, electronic packaging, anthropometrics, composite materials, additive manufacturing and test/measurement equipment.
- Experience in the use of engineering analysis tools supporting dynamic, structural and thermal analysis or experience in the validation of the output of these tools through test.
- Worked within and/or an understanding of a product development lifecycle.
- Experience with working within highly regulated engineering environments.
- Existing, or previous, SC level clearance
- Proficiency in any or all of the following; CREO, WindChill, Teamcenter, DOORs and JIRA.
