Senior Mechanical Engineer

Contract until the end of 2025 (initially)

Up to £55.56 per hour umbrella (Inside IR35)

Hybrid working (circa 1 day per week on site with a need to be flexible where required)

Job Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of Mechanical Detail design within assigned Electro-Optic and/or RF Products.  The role will involve working with multi-discipline project teams and our Customers across the UK.

What you’ll do as a Senior Mechanical Engineer:

  • Compliance of Mechanical Engineering solutions through the entire Engineering Lifecycle, ensuring that the solutions consider all requirements including product quality, safety, reliability, etc.
  • Supporting senior Peers in the delivery of mechanical solutions and techniques that enable the team to advance the next generation of EO and/or RF Products.
  • Mechanical Engineering detailed design; including numerical calculations, tolerance studies, etc.
  • Producing Manufacturing Data Packs in line with BS8888, including appropriate use of GD&T.
  • Support to successful resolution of technical investigations.
  • Contributing to reviews of mechanical designs in accordance with business and industry standards.
  • Hands on involvement in practical implementation of development builds and Design of Experiments.
  • Providing support during the introduction of new product into the Development/Production lifecycle phase.
  • Actively contribute to Work Package delivery elements to achieve desired Quality, Schedule and Cost.

Key Attributes:

Essential:

  • An understanding of design for ‘harsh environments’ including Shock, Vibration, EMC, salt fog, etc.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) Management
  • Detail and assembly drawing generation, in accordance with BS8888.
  • Experienced in the integration of Printed Circuit Boards within a mechanical structure, with proven knowledge of electrical screening, grounding, etc.
  • Experienced in various aspects of DfX, including Manufacturing, Assembly, Test, Integration and Sustainability.
  • Mechanical engineering for Electronic Optic Products
  • Numerical calculations, tolerance studies, etc.
  • Perform ‘hands on’ mechanical design and development using 3D CAD software (PTC Creo).
  • Thermal management techniques of power dense Electronic Products.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Cable Harness design, including Connector selection, screening, strain relief methods, etc.
  • Mechanical engineering for Electronic Products (including RF).
  • Structural design and an ability to carry out ‘first pass’ analyses and work in conjunction with full-time Structural Analysts.
