Job Role:
As a Safety Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of Design Safety Certification and In-Service Safety activities in support of the Weapon Platform (Typhoon Aircraft) and Support Integration (Typhoon) throughout ELC Phases 1 to 8 and in support of Typhoon NETMA / National / Export contracts.
Reporting to the Weapon System Engineering (WSE) Principal Consultant Engineer (Safety) and Lead Engineer (Safety), the individual will be responsible for support to the delivery of Design Safety Certification activities (throughout ELC Phases 1 to 6 inclusive) and In-Service Safety activities (through ELC Phases 6 to 8) in support of the Weapon Platform (Typhoon Aircraft) and Support Integration (Typhoon) activities, in support of Typhoon National (UK), Typhoon Export (RSAF, KSA, OMAN, QATAR) and Typhoon NETMA (UK, IT, GE, SP) customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluation of Aircraft and Support, and Aircraft System / Sub-system, design safety in support of Platform and Support safety certification throughout ELC Phases 1 to 6
- Generating, updating and reviewing Aircraft, System and Sub-System System Safety Assessment Reports in support of the certification process or provision of inputs to partner companies
- Generating, updating and reviewing Aircraft Zonal Hazard Analysis Reports (ZHAs) in support of the certification process or provision of inputs to partner companies
- Generating Support Integration Safety Assessments / Justifications
- Maintenance and update of the Platform and Support hazard logs
- Review of Platform and Support certification evidence (inc. associated qualification evidence) and generating safety certification arguments / justifications to assert that the Platform and Support solution design is acceptability safe in support of the certification process, throughout ELC Phases 1 to 6
- Ensuring safety engineering evidence supports acceptable Safety Certification of the Weapon Platform / Support Solution product design
- Ensuring that Certification evidence supports achievement of an acceptable level of Weapon Platform / Support Solution design safety
- Assistance to Platform engineering and Systems Engineering teams with producing, throughout ELC Phases 1 to 6
- Preparation of safety certification material in support of Project (internal), partner company and customer safety and certification reviews as necessary
- Undertake weapon system risk assessments throughout ELC phases 6 to 8 related to arising platform issues across the EF 37% workshare and 100% Export through life safety responsibilities in accordance with EF and Business Processes, ensuring safety engineering evidence supports assessed and documented risk position of the product
- Assist the Weapon System / Support Solution Capability Project teams, support and service engineering organisations with the generation of Risk Assessments, ensuring suitable justification exists for action and the adequacy of the proposed remedial / recovery action in mitigating Product safety risk / safety performance degradation
- Support Chief Engineer Office in the development and implementation of Product Integrity Strategy Management Requirements within the WSE and Project organisations
- Monitor and review In Service Arising Data (ASORs, TIs, PIs/Dis etc) to confirm Project conclusions and recommendations, inclusive of AW observed trends
- Assess customer deviations from the design for adverse impact on the extant Weapon Platform (Aircraft) and Support Solution design safety justification providing appropriate recommendations to Project Engineering and where necessary escalation to CEO.
- Undertake the communication and management of residual risk on Typhoon by updating, maintaining and reporting a monthly WSE In Service Arising & Residual Risk Report for Typhoon, ensuring significant / topical arising’s are brought to the attention of the Platform Chief Engineer, AW and Technical Authorities
- Provide capability to the TI/PI/DI team in terms of managing any outstanding safety actions and mitigating any risk arising from in PI/DI Reports
- Ensure that documentation is properly maintained and retained through Workspace and PLM.
- Promoting the system safety discipline throughout the design and engineering functions
Key Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in Aerospace / Aeronautical Engineering, Systems or Mechanical Engineering and Safety Engineering in a Military Airborne Platform design environment is essential
- An ideal candidate would be highly self-motivated and analytical with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to engage with senior technical and engineering leaders within the business, and Senior external and Partner stakeholders
- Ability to lead out and influence on the technical aspects and acceptability of Product Safety in a through-life capacity

- Subject matter expertise in product Safety and in service product safety
