We are now recruiting for an Electrical Systems Manager to be involved in industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station. These positions can be based in either Derby or Warrington
What we’re looking for:
Provide technical leadership and expertise across the lifecycle of Electrical Systems for the SMR nuclear power plant. As a manager within the Electrical Systems’ team, you’ll develop and manage a team of electrical engineers, setting the work plan and delivering the agree scope of work.
The Electrical team manage all aspects of the electrical system design across the SMR, for the agreed systems under your scope, the role covers the delivery of the complete design, spanning system architecture, sub-system design and equipment specification and design / selection to realise the final verified design of the power station. You’ll need to develop relationships with and work closely with the engineering teams from across the power station and applying a structured systems engineering approach to design.
Support the Senior Manager - Electrical Systems Design, in delivery of the agreed programme of work.
Accountable for delivery of the elements of the Electrical teams scope of work
Working with other teams to translate high level requirements into requirements for Electrical Systems.
Assess and substantiate that the design specification meets the requirements.
Ensure that optimum solutions are provided by supporting the procurement, operations, and maintenance aspects of the equipment.
Prepare technical reports, calculations, and presentations to communicate results and recommendations.
Works with the Verification team to define verification activities.
Participates in and supports capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for the team, in conjunction with managers.
Identifies and mitigates risks.
Develops, implements, documents, and maintains design processes, policies, procedures, associated guidelines, tools, and training as required.
Develops the knowledge required to provide advice / support to project teams and / or integrated product teams (IPT).
Represents the electrical engineering area in meetings, working groups and integrated project teams as assigned.
Works across the power station engineering teams, where required, to deliver standardisation and a commoditised approach to system and component development.
Work with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components and systems to facilitate effective system design.
Ensures that quality is maintained throughout the SMR project lifecycle by undertaking appropriate technical reviews and providing the required electrical engineering inputs to the project technical review gates.
Discusses the electrical system design with external organisations including the nuclear safety regulator, potential customers, and suppliers.
Manage staff, contract partners and packages of work with the supply chain.
You will be accountable for the delivery of your teams’ packages of work to time, cost and quality requirements.
You will work with the broader EC&I team and other teams/disciplines to capture requirements, develop electrical power system models to support design options, present possible system designs and capture the resulting design definition.
You will act as a responsible designer and intelligent customer dependent on the task you are working on.
You could manage contract partners for work they will be delivering.
You’ll be responsible for your team’s development, setting performance objectives and managing your team’s performance.

Key Criteria:
Knowledge and experience in Electrical power system design, including offsite transmission connection, HV and LV electrical switchgear, generator systems, earthing and lightning systems. This is a broad range of skills, request is to match one with an awareness level of the other areas. Transmission system skill set most desirable
Experience in managing the work output of design engineers is essential, this could be other disciplines, contract partners or supply chain packages of work. Proactive, positive role model who can support the development of fellow engineers.
Experience of using a structure engineering design process, including optioneering, down selection. Knowledge of using requirements management tools.
Strong technical communication, Proficient in preparing technical reports, calculations, and presentations to communicate results and recommendations.
Setting work plans and managing teams to deliver work on schedule. Able to identify and manage risks and mitigation plans.
Qualifications Requirement
Hold a degree level qualification in electrical engineering or a related subject.
Pay and Benefits:
We anticipate paying a salary between £57,600 to £75,600 plus:-
Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
Benefits Allowance – £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
