Scientific Analyst

Our client is recruiting for a Senior Analyst CSS, but Trainee applicants will be considered for this role. This is a full time contract role, initially for 12 months.

Hourly Rate, based on a pa salary of £37,147 to £58,109
Trainee Rate, based on a pa salary of £25,963 to £35,864
Enhancements Paid for Overtime Working
Hours of Work: 37.9 per week
Excellent Annual Leave and Public Holiday Entitlement (in total 35.5 days per annum)

ROLE –

Job Description
CSS provide analytical support to site delivering a wide range of statutory analysis and analysis to support waste characterisation and decommissioning. Vacancies have arisen within CSS for senior analysts, trainees at analyst level will be considered. The job holder will carry out day-to-day analytical operations within the laboratories.

Responsibilities:
Undertake and deliver sample preparation, routine analysis and reporting to the lab or team leader, including testing and internal calibrations, ensuring that CSS reporting deadlines are met
Maintain a daily log and report progress and/or problems to laboratory leader/shift chemist
Assist the laboratory leader/shift chemist in ensuring operational delays are minimised by identifying constraints leading to unplanned downtime
Report possible non-compliances to the laboratory leader/shift chemist and propose and deliver corrective actions to close out non-compliances
Undertake safety checks, report, and take appropriate action
Maintain analytical proficiencies in one laboratory area
Maintain analytical proficiencies in additional laboratory areas, where CSS workload and flexibility requires this
Prepare technical documents for review

The job holder may:
Be required to undertake shift work on a rota basis
Perform method development, validation and uncertainty estimation
Perform the responsibilities of management appointments relevant to post
Perform additional management activities as required
Undertake audits on UKAS aspects of the quality management system

Aptitudes and experience
HNC in science or equivalent qualifications plus experience
Demonstrable experience in lab areas
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Good general safety awareness
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to work under pressure and to time deadlines whilst maintaining quality of output
STEM qualifications at least to higher grade or equivalent
Interested in lab work (manual dexterity attention to detail
