Principal Engineer – Shock and Dynamics
12 months - £51.09ph umbrella
As an Engineer within the Shock and Dynamics department, you will ensure structures and
equipment are verified against naval shock requirements. You will set requirements for sub systems
to ensure overall boat requirements are met. You will manage sub-system maturity in relation to
naval shock and will provide design guidance to both internal and external stakeholders at design
reviews. You will also support the development of junior engineers within the team.
Typical duties include:
Set sub-system requirements to meet whole boat naval shock requirements
Manage verification and validation (V&V) evidence to ensure sub-systems meet shock requirements
Developing design justification documentation
Undertake structural assessments of structures and equipment subjected to naval shock load cases
Provide design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases
Undertake peer review checking activities and develop junior engineers
preparation of business cases.
• Undertake technical reviews, verifies and signs engineering designs
• Articulate, define and document subject expertise, approaches and standards in
order to extend business knowledge base.
• Provide technical direction to engineers
• Supporting the development of individuals and teams to enhance skills and
competencies, such that technical capability objectives are fully achieved.
• Possess a detailed knowledge/understanding of assessments in support structures,
structural seats/foundations, fasteners and welds using a mixture of finite element
analysis, classical stress calculation techniques and application of standard code
formulae.
• The assessment of the structural adequacy of simple mechanical items and systems.
• Articulate and present technical arguments clearly, logically and simply.
• Represent the shock design function through all stages of the product life cycle.
• Provide specialist advice, active surveillance and representation at project design
reviews to ensure compliance with shock and dynamics design requirements.
• Provide direct specialist support to the production teams in the assessment and
resolution of production queries and issues, coordinating the input from the wider
engineering team.
• Facilitate and control of technical interactions between industrial partners on matters
of shock and dynamics design and qualification.
