Role: Senior Systems Engineer
Location: Warton (3 days a week onsite)
Duration: 6-month rolling contract
Pay rate: £79.17 PH Umbrella

Senior Systems Engineer – Simulink (Grade E)
Air Sector is engaged in a critical role on the Dreadnought submarine programme to develop the functional design of the Active Vehicle Control System (AVCS), the system used to drive and manoeuvre the boat. The work uses Model Based Systems Engineering MBSE techniques at scale on what is a safety critical system. We currently have vacancies for Simulink Engineers within the Mission Systems discipline to be based at one of our UK.

Responsibilities
• Human Machine Interface & Situational Awareness systems (HMI&SA)
• System Health and Data Management systems This will be working in one of the delivery work stream teams as part of the AVC Functional Software organisation. You will be involved in aspects of the concept, requirements definition, detailed design and development to delivery. Hybrid working arrangements are available.
• The Dreadnought AVC programme operates a ‘One Team’ construct with partners BAE Systems Submarines and Electronic Systems.
• The successful candidate will be expected to have some proven ability across the Engineering Lifecycle with knowledge of Mission Systems (primarily Displays and Controls and/or Monitoring and Recording).
• Proven ability of Functional Architecting in those areas would be beneficial. Flight or Marine Systems knowledge would also be beneficial, along with an appreciation of software development and modelling & simulation. Additionally, the candidate should have an openness to learning new skills, concepts and approaches to developing MBSE products and have excellent communication skills.
• The project represents a significant opportunity for personal development in a high-profile product delivery team especially in the area of modelling and simulation, as well as systems engineering skills
• Model Based Design (MBD) development and integration of the System, including interfacing with the Control & Instrumentation (C&I), Platform Mechanical and Software work streams.
• Understanding and capturing system control requirements, working closely with stakeholders within BAES Submarines.
• Produce control model concepts, then detailed design models and test harnesses.
• Verify and validate textual requirements in preparation for delivery.
• Contributing to safety analysis of the products.
• Develop and harmonise processes in line with Maritime and Air Sector policies

Essential:
• The status of the Dreadnought Programme is UK sovereign applications can therefore only be accepted from sole UK Nationals (Foreign Nationals and those holding Dual Citizenship may not be permitted to work on this Programme).
• Degree or equivalent experience or qualification in relevant STEM subject (Aeronautical / Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Physics/Maths/Science). • Demonstrable knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle with ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work.
• Competence in MathWorks tools to apply Model-based systems engineering principles, tools and techniques (primarily Simulink and its Test).
• Capable in Microsoft Office packages and an ability to develop competence with more specialist toolsets as necessary.
• Ability to apply previous learning and experience to offer guidance, support and coaching to others
• Ability to effectively research system design data and apply to complex problems. • Excellent communication skills to support interfaces across a number of delivery work streams as well as customers and stakeholders at other BAE sites including Barrow and Rochester.
• Flexibility is required, with some on site working and occasional travel between sites.
