Job Title: Quantity Surveyor
Location: Birmingham
Contract Type: Initial 6-Month Contract (with potential for permanent placement)

About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our client’s dynamic and well-respected consultancy, based in Birmingham. This role is perfect for a professional with expertise in both residential and commercial construction projects. You will play a critical part in delivering high-quality cost management and advisory services while ensuring value for money, compliance, and exceptional outcomes for clients.

This is an initial 6-month contract, with a strong possibility of transitioning into a permanent position based on performance and business requirements.

Key responsibilities:
- Conduct cost planning, estimation, and feasibility studies for residential and commercial projects
- Manage procurement processes, including preparing tender documents, assessing bids, and making recommendations
- Monitor project budgets, identifying and addressing variances
- Provide accurate and detailed valuations, cash flow forecasts, and financial reports
- Negotiate contracts and manage contractual claims or disputes
- Collaborate closely with design, project, and construction teams to ensure seamless delivery
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and assess compliance with budgets and standards
- Prepare final accounts and complete project cost reconciliations

Key skills and experience:
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in residential and commercial builds
- Strong understanding of construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC)
- Excellent budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with a focus on delivering value
- Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., CostX, CATO, or similar)
- Professional qualifications such as RICS (or working towards chartership) are desirable but not essential
