Location: Time split between office & sites

Tetra Tech is seeking a Highways Engineer with significant experience of Highway improvement projects to act as an Interim Clerk of Works for Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) in their role as the Highway Authority. You will be assisting in the delivery of developer led schemes, which are designed in accordance with Section 278 and Section 38 Agreements. You will be responsible for the management and monitoring of works carried out on site by the developer’s contractor and be required to inspect the workmanship, quality, and safety of construction activities on sites and ensure that work is carried out to the correct specifications, adhering to legal, safety, and environmental standards.

The successful candidate will have the ability if desired to follow a flexible working from home arrangement, although it is expected that he/she will be required to carry out site visits and meetings across the county on a regular basis and attend the HCC Highways office in Stevenage as and when required.

Requirements:
For this key role we require candidates to have:
• Experience of undertaking a Clerk of Works role in accordance with the NEC form of contract.
• Have knowledge of the construction of highway improvement projects and in particular the Specification for Highway Works.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation – Highways Act 1980, New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 and Traffic Management Act 2004
• The proven ability to communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders
• Carried out duties to meet Health and Safety regulations, including CDM regulations on site and to monitor and instruct contractors/constructors on Health and Safety and Employment Practices
• A full valid UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications:
• A recognised qualification in Highway or Civil Engineering
