Industry: Defence
Contract Type: Permanent
Benefits: Hybrid Working, Company Vehicle, Annual Bonus, Yearly Pay Rise, Flexible Working Scheme

Morson Talent is excited to be recruiting for a Service and Commissioning Engineer for an established supplier of electrical engineering solutions in the naval sector. Our client has a rich history as an innovator in control systems and ruggedised enclosures, particularly for military applications. Their equipment and systems are used in a variety of applications across the globe.

This is a field-based role with occasional office visits for training, briefings, and customer FATs. You will mainly work in naval dockyards and shipyards but may occasionally be required to attend vessels at sea (approximately once per year). When not attending vessels, the role allows for home working. Willingness to travel, including occasional overseas assignments, is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commissioning, setting to work, fault finding, and surveying electrical systems and equipment
  • Provide training to customer staff on system use and maintenance
  • Write detailed reports following visits and provide recommendations for system improvements
  • Support a broad range of electrical systems onboard ships and submarines
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and production teams to ensure new designs are both functional and easy to maintain
  • Develop technical support manuals and obsolescence management plans
  • Prepare method statements and risk assessments

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering; an apprenticeship background is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of electromechanical engineering, including motor control, power distribution, and transformers
  • Knowledge of electronics and PLC systems
  • Experience with motor generators, static frequency converters, and transformer rectifier units is beneficial (training provided)
  • Ability to update and maintain PLC programs and settings
  • Experience in service and fault finding, with a strong ability to interpret and work from complex wiring/schematic diagrams
  • Experience in the marine environment, particularly with marine power supplies
  • Previous experience with helicopter systems is a plus
  • Proficiency in using test equipment such as voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and load banks

Personal Attributes:

  • Ideally, you will be ex-Royal Navy, with training in the service and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment however we look at candidates from other relevant industry sectors
  • Must be able to obtain UK MoD SC Clearance

Why Join Us?

  • Hybrid working arrangements to ensure a good work-life balance
  • A company vehicle and flexible working tailored to the role
  • Annual bonus, yearly pay rises, and a rewarding career with an industry leader

If you’re passionate about electrical engineering, the naval sector, and looking for a dynamic, field-based role, we would love to hear from you!
