Badger Lead

We are currently looking for a Badger Lead to be based in Suffolk on a contract basis.

The proposed construction and operational footprint of the works impacts a number of badger setts that will need to be closed to facilitate the works.

Role description
The appointed person will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the approach to badgers for the project, including the further development of the badger Management Strategy and licensing for the project.
They will also be responsible for identifying, updating and resourcing badger surveys for the project and leading any design or mitigation work for badgers.
Although the full approach to delivery with respect to badgers is yet to be fully clarified the appointed person will help to direct this approach. The role is likely to include the following:

Liaison

The appointed person will be required to liaise with the following parties, though regular
engagement sessions and workshops:

The appointed person will be responsible for the following:
• Documents and strategies: the appointed person will be responsible for developing, executing, monitoring and assuring the following strategies:
1. Badger Management Strategy.
2. Badger Licence

• Constructability/ Mitigation: Ensuring that the proposed approach to badgers takes account of constructability, health and safety, maintenance, access, and monitoring requirements as well as further ecological and environmental constraints and controls to this task.
• Supporting the Design Team: to ensure that the ecological objectives of the badger strategy is met through the development of the design.
• Commercial Estimate: Supporting the development of a robust commercial estimate for the delivery of the badger Management Strategy, that will be incorporated into the overall project estimate.
• Procurement: Supporting the procurement approach for the delivery of the badger Mitigation Strategy.
• Risk management: Identifying risks and measures to counteract the impact of these risks to the delivery of the badger Management strategy.
• Opportunities and Innovation: Identifying opportunities and innovative approaches that can be implemented to better secure the badger Management strategy.
• Assumptions: maintaining a record of assumptions for the delivery of the task.
• Monitoring: defining and implementing any monitoring measures for badgers as required by the badger Mitigation Strategy.

It is envisaged that the role will be full time for the initial duration of 6 months. This is likely to include construction supervision, monitoring and ongoing stakeholder engagement as defined by the developed strategies.

The appointed person should have demonstrable experience in the management and survey of badgers on a construction project, project management skills and demonstrable evidence of stakeholder engagement and site construction experience. They also need to have a CSCS card and a 2-day outdoor first aid certificate and will need to pass a security clearance procedure.

The candidate will also need to undertake a Lantra 4x4 course.
Expenses are provided £100 per day as a taxable benefit.
