We have an excellent opportunity for a QS / COMMERCIAL MANAGER based in Barrow in Furness, South Cumbria

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled QS/Commercial Manager to join our team - this is a full-time, position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday and can be offered either on a permanent or contract basis.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing the contractual and financial aspects of our civil/construction projects.

Responsibilities will include preparing applications for payment, managing retentions and final accounts, negotiating compensation events and tenders, and overseeing subcontractor work orders and contracts.

The role requires regular site visits and close communication with project managers.

There is a good salary range, depending on experience.

Candidates must be available and willing to commute within South Cumbria.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

In-depth knowledge and understanding of NEC & JCT Contracts

Ability to manage contractual and financial aspects of civils/construction projects

Experience in preparing applications for payment and submitting them to customers

Proficiency in managing retentions and final accounts

Strong negotiation skills for compensation events and tenders

Competence in managing costing systems for profit and loss/job analysis

Experience in measuring new tenders and quantities for existing works

Ability to manage subcontractor work orders, contracts, applications, and retentions

Strong communication skills for working alongside project managers

Willingness to commute within South Cumbria

SOFTWARE / TOOLS

MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Project management software (e.g., MS Project, CEMAR) would be advantageous

CERTIFICATION AND STANDARDS

Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field
Professional certification such as MRICS or equivalent would be preferred
