Supervisor

Supervisor - Central and South Scotland
Ensure all projects are completed with the highest safety standards, while maximizing financial performance. Manage and develop team performance to ensure work activities are carried out efficiently, in line with agreed programmes and specifications. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, external clients, and stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all legislative and corporate HSQE requirements, including site inductions, job briefings, risk assessments, and safety inspections.
- Promote and enforce adherence to safety policies, including golden rules and best practices.
- Oversee subcontractor competence and compliance with safety regulations.
- Manage site operations to maximize efficiency and profitability, ensuring a clear understanding of contract pricing and cost control.
- Track and compile accurate cost/value data daily and weekly.
- Ensure works are completed to the highest standard, meeting contract specifications and industry standards to minimize remedial work.
- Manage testing requirements and quality assurance procedures to ensure compliance.
- Conduct inspections with clients before project sign-off to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Efficiently allocate and supervise resources, plant, staff, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Work closely with internal and external supply chains to minimize delays and reduce costs.
- Verify and approve working hours for teams and subcontractors.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding site requirements, including SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment), programme updates, and quality standards.
- Agree on and monitor project completion timelines with clients, providing regular updates to maintain strong relationships.
- Plan and place daily material orders to optimize surfacing and construction programmes.
- Continuously review and implement methods to reduce material usage and minimize site waste.
- Ensure effective remedial action management when required.
- Manage all team-related issues, including performance appraisals, training plans, return-to-work interviews, disciplinary matters, and absence reviews.
- Set SMART objectives for site operatives and provide regular performance feedback.
- Ensure site operatives adhere to company policies and procedures.

Knowledge & Skills
- Qualifications & Experience:
- Extensive experience in the highways, civil engineering, or construction industry.
- CSCS Qualification (mandatory).
- SMSTS Certification (mandatory).
- NEBOSH Certification (desirable).
- HNC in Construction, Road Building, or Civil Engineering (desirable).
- Experience managing complex site operations and resolving issues effectively.

Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of contracting methods, industry specifications, and contract management.
- High technical proficiency with the ability to train and mentor others.
- Excellent people management skills, including performance development and conflict resolution.
- Ability to interpret customer needs and deliver projects that exceed expectations.
- Problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to drive team success.
- Ability to foster teamwork and promote a positive working culture.
- Proactive, with a _can-do_ attitude, enthusiasm, and flexibility to adapt to challenges.
