Power BI Developer - SC Cleared

Due to the nature of the role, candidates must hold an Active SC Clearance.

Overview:
The Power BI Developer is part of a digital technologies team focusing on delivering strong dashboards, KPI’s, metrics and analytics using Microsoft Power BI. The developer will build data visualisations based on requirements captured by the data Analysts and produce data products for consumption by the UK businesses and functions.

This role requires a hands-on person who will drive the creation of data visualisations from requirement through to finished production product. Able to work with different levels of the UK organisation and understand verbal requirements to take through development iterations into a finished output.

They will create and manage BI and analytics solutions that turn data into knowledge enhancing our business intelligence systems to help us make better decisions

Primary Purpose of the Role:
To support and evolve the Business Intelligence capability utilising Power BI.
• As a member of the team you will deliver and support application reporting services that are “best in class” to support the needs of the various businesses and functions.
• To use industry standard Business Intelligence development techniques to be able to capture requirements and develop reporting and analytics solutions to business issues.
• Build, implement and support data visualisation using Microsoft Power BI. The right candidate will have experience of full BI lifecycle project work. From requirements capture through logical and physical design and onto implementation, testing and deployment.
• Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative to create exciting solutions.
• Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude
• Firm grasp of the Microsoft BI technologies and implementation methodologies and have in-depth experience of Microsoft Power BI.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
• Manage and run business workshops and 121’s to understand the business report, dashboard and data requirements.
• Development of exciting and innovative dashboards and reports for business use across all of the UK businesses and functions using Power BI
• Integrate with key programmes and work streams as required.
• Agree and manage functional reporting requirements ensuring that critical business information is available in a timely and accurate manner.
• Capture, triage and delivery of business requirements through process analysis, initial solution design through to delivery.
• Support the businesses to adopt common processes and common toolsets.
• Dashboard design, development and deployment
• Feed into project management tasks as required including estimating work packages and business interaction.
• Development of analytics reports and dashboards for business consumption.
• Translate business needs to technical specifications
• Design, build and deploy BI solutions (e.g. reporting tools)
• Maintain and support data analytics platforms
• Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting of developed solutions.
• Evaluate and improve existing BI systems and suggest improvements.
• Collaborate with teams to integrate systems
• Develop and execute database queries and conduct analyses
• Create visualizations and reports for requested projects
• Develop and update technical documentation as required.

Skills
Essential:
• Strong background of dashboard and reports requirements capture, design and development.
• Able to translate business requirements into documented designs and solutions.
• Broad experience of a number of reporting tools - Power BI and Cognos Analytics
• Broad experience of data modelling and report design and development
• Ability to be able to deliver training material, process briefings, requirements capture, etc. to small and large audiences.
• Proven experience of creating tabular data models in SSAS
• Proven experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist
• Recognise the importance that data and data integrity play in managing a business and the tools that support the process.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to create SQL queries
• Knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

Desirable:
• Good all round knowledge of business structures and processes. How businesses work and how they use toolsets to promote efficiency
• Design to implementation methodologies, preferably gained through practical experience.
• Understanding of project management principles and processes.
• Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modelling) and data mining
• In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework
