Environmental Consultant

Our client is a leading nuclear engineering who provide specialist design services to a variety of clients.

They currently require an Environmental Consultant to join their team based in Warrington.

Responsibilities and activities:

  • Produce (as lead author) and review environmental documentation in line with legis-lative and project requirements, including options assessments, aspects assess-ments, BPM assessments/reviews and Environmental Support Files.
  • General radiological awareness.
  • Competent in technical report writing.
  • Attend HAZOPs/HAZANs/Design reviews etc (mostly remotely although will assume some travel within the contract)
  • Attend project meetings including meetings with the regulator
  • Contribute to the accuracy of the site’s Management System documentation.
  • Track, action and close out internal and external environmental actions.
  • Represent FCA Programme at internal meetings and Committees.
  • Provide specialist environmental support to interface with the regulator on behalf of the FCA Programme facilities and projects.
  • Be appointed to the Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA) Corporate Body, to provide advice on the EASR18 (Environmental Authorisations (Scotland) Regulations) Per-mit to projects.

Requirements:

  • Be educated to at least an HND in environmental studies (or equivalent qualification)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the nuclear industry or highly regulated industry 
  • Have experience of de-commissioning activities and of managing discharges to the environment in line with regulatory requirements, preferably the Environmental Authorisation (Scotland) Regulations (EASR) and the application of Best Practicable Means (BPM).
  • Have experience of working within an engineering design project and producing associated environmental documentation and advice.
