Morson Talent are delighted to present an opportunity for a suitably qualified Waste & Resources Lead to join our client’s established team for work associated with a major energy infrastructure Project in Somerset.
This is a 12-month (renewable) contract position – inside IR35. Site based. (**Any hybrid working options yet to be confirmed**)
Overview
- The Waste & Resources Lead will drive efficient waste management operations for one of the UKs most significant construction projects. You will lead the management of a high-value waste contract, ensuring industry-leading safety, quality, and sustainability. You will oversee waste reduction initiatives, coordinate with project contractors, monitor environmental impact, and oversee the waste management scope for Europe’s largest construction site. You will be empowered to shape and develop innovative waste solutions, boost recycling, and reduce waste to landfill.
- The Waste and Resources Lead will be part of a team of Environmental Management professionals reporting to the Site Environment & Sustainability Manager. This role will be entirely dedicated to supporting the waste management requirements of the construction Project both at site and further a field.
- The main purpose of this role is to ensure that the waste contract for the site is managed in technically compliant manner, whilst at the same time delivering the best outcomes commercially and environmentally for the Project.
- The postholder will be supported by the wider Environment & Sustainability team, and the Waste Management Contractor who manage and assure the compliance aspects of waste management.
- The postholder will involve working closely with the Construction Teams and Contract Partners to manage waste produced onsite as the project moves through construction into the installation and commissioning phases. It will require routine engagement with Contract Partners, Project Managers, Construction Delivery colleagues and the Environment Agency.
- The successful candidate will be an established environmental or waste management professional with a proven track record of waste management within the construction, or other similar scale industrial sector.
Principal Accountabilities
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of waste legislation and employ a technical, and sustainable approach to large-scale construction waste management.
- Utilise recent and relevant knowledge from a construction or complex industrial environment to enhance waste management operations.
- Ensure successful delivery within large-scale project environments, meeting timelines and budget expectations.
- Develop and implement strategies for dynamic, fast-paced project delivery.
- Engage positively with stakeholders, both internal and external, through strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Tackle complex issues strategically, contributing to a cohesive _one team_ approach within the local supply chain vision.
- Identify and evaluate new and innovative recovery or recycling routes, for continuously evolving waste streams.
- Chair Monthly Waste Management meetings with the contractors’ waste leads.
- Liaise regularly with the Environment Agency.
- Actively support the Project’s sustainability agenda, by identifying and implementing waste policies that support Net Zero and Circular Economy Working Groups.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential skills
- In depth knowledge of waste legislation and proven experience within a large-scale construction, or other high hazard industrial waste management environment.
- Detailed working knowledge of Technical Guidance WM3 and advanced waste classification.
- Project management experience of managing significant work packages and budgets from a technical standpoint.
- Proven track record of delivery within a large project environment.
- Ability to develop a strategy and deliver projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and experience of positive stakeholder engagement internally and externally.
- Proven ability to deal with complex issues and work within our local supply chain vision, creating a one team ethos.
- Ability to manage large data sets, and prepare a range of environmental, contractual and financial reports.
Desirable
- Degree standard education or recent relevant technical experience working at a similar level in a related industrial setting.
- NEC3 Contract training.
- Project Management qualification (PRINCE2 or APM).
- Current CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 Qualification.
- Member of the Chartered Institute of Waste Managers or Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment.
- Experience of working in compliance with ADR Regulations
- Practical experience working with the Definition of Waste: Development Industry Code of Practice, as well as Local Authority and Environment Agency waste permits
