Our Client, Urenco; trusted, long-term supplier to the nuclear industry, specialising in safe, cost effective and reliable uranium enrichment services, are looking for an Instrument Technician (Commissioning) on a contract basis (inside IR35), to be based in Capenhurst near Chester. In this contract position, you will be working as part of a multi-disciplined technical engineering team with core electrical, control, and instrumentation skills, providing maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, calibration, inspection, and modification of plant and process-related equipment in a safe, cost-effective, and reliable manner.
Rate: £42-45 Umbrella (Inside IR35)
Duties and Responsibilities:
Health and Safety
- Promote and ensure the health and safety of individuals, plant, and the environment to maintain high levels of personal safety, plant integrity, and environmental compliance.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, or ISO.
Instrumentation Tasks
- Undertake all aspects of instrumentation plant installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Work on process instrumentation and undertake commissioning and calibration of level transmitters (radar/ultrasonic), flowmeters (magflow/vortex/DP), pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters (RTD & thermocouple), pH/conductivity analysers, PID controllers, and gas monitors.
System Understanding
- Understand mechanical and process package EC&I interfaces with the plant control system.
- Perform loop checking and function checking using hand-held instrumentation where required.
Project Management
- Produce scope of work, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Plan and schedule work aligned with SAP.
- Assist in the implementation of minor/medium/complex projects from conception to handover of a working system.
Team Coordination
- Work within the team, between teams, and with subcontractors to deliver the installation programme and improve the performance of existing installations.
- Liaise with maintenance contractors and suppliers to ensure the effective provision of services and parts.
- Deputize for Lead EC&I Engineer when required.
- Provide installation and commissioning support to other installation areas when required.
Job Requirements
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship at NVQ Level 3.
- Relevant City and Guilds qualification in Electrical Engineering and HNC qualification in C&I Engineering.
- Relevant work experience of at least 5 years in an engineering environment.
- Technical knowledge and understanding of plant equipment and systems.
- Competent in calibration and end-to-end testing of plant instrumentation.
- Competent to operate Committed and Registered workspaces.
- Proficiency with software tools such as SAP.
