Marine & Tunnelling Enineering & Technical Lead

We are currently looking for an Engineering & Technical Lead to work on the Marine & Tunnelling section on the Sizewell C project.

This is a contract role to run to the end of December 2025 but likely to be longer.
The work will be based in London 3 days per week with hybrid working.

Main duties:
Responsible for coordination of the design assurance for the Marine and Tunnelling portion. This includes:
• Definition of design / engineering / technical requirements (Basic Design level)
• Coordination of Assurance of the Marine & Technical design against the technical requirements (assurance provided by SZC internal third parties)
• Management of Responsible Designer Technical Scope and coordination with the Design Authority and Technical Directorate.
• Coordination and integration of design with other portions within CWP
• Ensure the role of Intelligent Customer is performed including surveillance against all required standards.
• Manage E&T budget and associated resources.
• Assurance that the Principal Designer duties under CDM are being properly discharged and complied.
• Support to Construction and Manufacturing Quality.
• Represent the CWP in respect of design and engineering in performance management, programme / project controls and governance forums.
• Support the Programme / PMs with oversight of CWA’s construction planning and temporary works design.
• Support the Programme / PMs with oversight of specialist engineering activities.

Nuclear Safety Accountabilities

This Post will have nuclear safety responsibilities which could have an impact on nuclear safety through the activities that they?perform. These will be detailed in the Nuclear Baseline accordingly.

Dimensions

The Engineering & Technical function includes several technical areas. The purpose of this role is to manage a technical team within the Infrastructure area incorporating the Marine & Tunnelling portion
The Engineering and Technical lead will engage with several stakeholders such as:
• SZC Civil Works Programme
• Civil Works Alliance i.e. Balfour Beatty, Bouygues and Laing O’ Rourke
• CWP Owner(s) Participants
• Civil Work Programme Design Supply Chain (e.g. AtkinsRéális, Ingerop, ICOSH)
• Responsible Designer
• EDF Nuclear Services - Engineering (for Safety Case Related Design Technical Assurance)
• SZC Design Authority,
• Site Delivery, NI and CIBOP Programmes
• MEH Alliance
Essential
• Experienced and knowledgeable of design activities in:
o heavy civil engineering structures, including tunnels and linings, launch shafts and connection shafts, reinforced concrete and structural steel, and familiarity with current design standards and working practices (e.g. British Standards) and/or
o marine works, including offshore shafts design and construction, permanent and temporary works and familiarity with current UK design standards and working practices and/or
o managing multi-discipline designs and teams, including integration, design and delivery management.
o Oversight of D&B tunnel contracts.
• Experience in, and a desire to provide, technical assistance and collaboration within a technically orientated delivery team
• Experience in nuclear industry & associated standards (eg. RCC-CW)
• Leadership of focused technical teams including technical direction of suppliers
• Experience of working in multi-disciplined matrixed project teams and organisations
Ability to communicate and engage effectively within the project team and if required across a range of organisational levels and stakeholders.

• Degree educated (BSc)
• Experience in the nuclear sector

• Post grad qualification (MSc)
• Membership of professional institution (e.g. ICE / BTS / APM etc)
