Morson Talent are currently looking for a Delivery Temporary Works Lead.
The Temporary Works Lead will be required to establish, implement and maintain the overarching procedure for the control of temporary works, ensuring all organisations are compliant with applying this procedure. The Temporary Works Lead may also be appointed as the Designated Individual.
The Temporary Works Lead will be required to establish a capable team of TW engineers (Designers and TW Coordinators) and have full oversight of all TW Supervisors (TWS).
Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions
• Fulfil the role of Designated Individual for the Principal Contractor as necessary.
• Update and maintain the SZC Delivery Oversight and Principal Contractor TW Standard and all associated procedures.
• Implement and monitor adoption of the procedure and record performance.
• Establish and manage a TW project team (Designers and Coordinators).
• Work with Information Management, IT & Systems teams to establish a TW Register capable of handling data appropriate to the scale and organisation of the project.
• Similarly, establish tools for managing geographical (geospatial) data and other technology tools to aid the management of temporary works.
• Appoint and support the TWCs to fulfil their duties, providing mentoring and technical guidance.
• Identify the nature and volume of TW design needed and the resources required to deliver this.
• Identify TW design and capacity in the external market and work with procurement on a sourcing strategy and scope documents. Support in evaluation of supplier TW competence.
• Develop a TW competence model for assurance purposes.
• Develop a TW Training and Development plan.
• Develop a TW designer onboarding plan.
• Lead on the recruitment of TW Coordinators and Supervisors.
• Identify opportunities for use of standardised TW designs, develop the scope and implement.
• Establish and manage a temporary works assurance regime of all project organisations, contractor partners and their sub-contractors
• Implement performance monitoring and key performance indicators for all temporary works at SZC.
• Fully engage with the SZC Principal Designer ensuring due consideration is given to temporary works in all stages of the Project Gateway Process in a way that eliminates and minimises health and safety risks on site. Ensure all members of the SZC TW team are also highly active in H&S by Design.

Essential
• Departmental management capability
• Understanding of the temporary works process as outlined in BS5975:2019.
• Understands the requirements of the CDM Regulations 2015.
• Technical expertise in the type of work being undertaken in both design and construction (execution).
• Understands the principles of risk reduction and how this should be managed by the Client, the Principal Designer and the Principal Contractor.
• Good communication and collaboration skills
• Established relationships with TW design supply chain.
Desirable
• Knowledge of ONR Licence Conditions
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
• Professionally qualified in civil or structural engineering including a degree in a relevant engineering discipline
• Practical experience - typically 20 years minimum experience in the construction industry and at least 15 years in Temporary Works.
• Extensive experience of temporary works design and implementation
• Formal Training – successful completion of a recognised temporary works coordinator course
• Commercial experience, eg defining scope of works, supporting procurement processes
• Chartered Engineer
• Experience of competence assessments of TWC/TWS’s
Desirable
• Experience of temporary works engineering on major projects, including tunnelling (desirable)
• Experience of working on Nuclear New Build or the Nuclear industry
