Business Support Manager

Job Title: Business Support Manager
Location: UK Wide (Remote with occasional travel)
Rate: £400-£450 /day (In-scope of IR35)
Contract Type: 12-month Provisional Contract (Initially, with a view to extend)

Overview:
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Business Support Manager to join a dynamic team in the UK Rail industry. This role focuses on leading financial management activities across operational and capital expenditure, ensuring the smooth running of regional deployment projects. You will work closely with the Head of PD&T and key stakeholders to manage budgets, forecasting, and financial controls for both OPEX and CAPEX projects. This is an initial 12-month contract with the potential to extend for an additional two years.

Key Responsibilities:
• Financial Process Management: Design, develop, and manage financial processes, including accruals, purchase order processing, and pricing mechanisms.
• Financial Controls: Create and implement financial controls for both operational and capital expenditure, supporting cost centre managers in budget control and forecasting.
• Business Planning: Lead the development of the PD&T annual business plan in alignment with strategic goals, managing OPEX & CAPEX plans across departments.
• Change Management: Standardise and implement a change management process for in-year adjustments in training demand.
• Risk Management: Design and maintain a consistent risk management process, including the development of risk registers.
• Central Reporting: Manage a central unit responsible for financial, activity, and management reporting.
• Commercial Opportunities: Support the Heads of PD&T and Training Services in identifying and enhancing commercial opportunities for training services.
• Finance Liaison: Act as the primary contact between PD&T and Finance to streamline financial processes.
• Make or Buy Decisions: Lead the decision-making process for customer-driven training interventions, establishing core criteria for procurement decisions.

Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:
• Proven financial management experience
• Extensive experience in contracting and procurement
• Strong customer focus with excellent negotiation and influencing skills
• Sound understanding of risk management principles

Desirable:
• Experience in rail training or rail sector (beneficial, not essential)
• Degree-educated or equivalent experience

Additional Information:
The role requires someone with a strong background in financial management who can effectively balance business acumen with strategic oversight. You’ll be responsible for managing high-value regional deployment projects and working closely with various stakeholders.
