Job Title: Structural Examiner
Location: Birmingham, Merseyside/Cheshire, Lancashire/Cumbria
IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Job Description:

We are seeking a Structural Examiner to perform critical structural examination work, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and maintaining safety. The role involves inspecting various structures, identifying potential issues, and contributing to the overall safety and performance of the infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site structural examinations to assess condition within set timeframes using the Alarm system.
  • If qualified, perform site inspections using rope access.
  • Compile and submit structural condition reports via the Alarm electronic system or another agreed process, for review by the Examining Engineers team.
  • Assist with special examinations, including monitoring sensitive structures and providing reconnaissance support.
  • Support specialist examinations led by the Examining Engineers team, including unique structures and tunnel inspections.
  • Participate in on-call duties, including responding to emergencies like bridge strikes.
  • Provide safety-critical site support as needed.
  • Contribute to quality, safety, and environmental objectives and continual improvement initiatives.
  • Make informed decisions on-site concerning safety issues and potential structural failures, especially in time-sensitive situations like bridge strikes.
  • Deliver completed examination reports, directly impacting performance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • GCSE pass in English Language.
  • C&G/NVC Level 3 in a building construction trade (equivalent experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis).
  • STE 4/SCMI competent.
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Bridge Strike Examiner qualification.
  • IT literate with basic skills in word processing and drawing applications.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
