Project Engineer

Overview of role
Working in Engineerings matrix resource model, Project Engineers are deployed across London Underground Infrastructure to deliver its multi-billion pound a year investment programme.

Project Engineers use expertise in the field of multi-discipline engineering to:
- Analyse and resolve complex technical problems across the transport network.
- Work effectively with both the Supply Chain and a broad TfL team including Engineering, Project Management, Commercial, Sponsorship and other project functions.
- Provide authoritative technical advice and guidance to senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Interpret technical strategies and company policy to satisfy business requirements.
- Apply commercial thinking to the development and implementation of optimised solutions.
- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of business operations and requirements in formulating recommendations.
- Providing constructive challenge to deliver the right outcomes for the business.

Key Accountabilities
- Ensures the safety, functionality and compliance of newly implemented or altered assets/systems.
- Leads the development and implementation of complex engineering solutions from a multi-discipline perspective, coordinating subject matter experts as needed.
- Drives a culture of continuous improvement using best practice, innovation, whole life cost optimisation and effective root cause analysis

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Skills
- Ability to communicate, negotiate, motivate & influence effectively - both orally and in writing - with people at all levels below Director both across the organisation and outside it.
- Ability to analyse complex data (quantitative and qualitative), draw conclusions and produce solutions and decisions.
- Proven ability to coordinate engineering activities to deliver assured engineering solutions.
Knowledge
- Understanding of the challenges of introducing new assets (ideally in the transport industry) and the necessary trade-off between cost, time, and scope.
- Understanding of the principles of risk management and value engineering.
- Knowledge of applicable health & safety legislation, industry best practice, standards and guidance.
- Knowledge of engineering contracts, e.g. the New Engineering Contract (NEC).
Experience
- Experience of providing engineering services to programmes/ projects for a large, high risk/ complexity, safety focused and regulated organisation(s), where there are multiple complex interfaces and delivering to time budget and quality.
- Some experience in the effective control of budgets and the delivery of projects to required cost, time, and quality.
Various sizes. Project Engineers will report to a Senior/Principal Project Engineer and generally be in small teams.
