Our client Scottish Power Renewables are currently recruiting for a Design Assurance Manager to join their team based in London or Glasgow on a contract basis initially. Main Purpose of Job
The Design Assurance Manager is a critical role within the SPR/Iberdrola Offshore Renewables Business, which is
focussed on the delivery of large-scale offshore wind projects in the UK, Europe and overseas. The individual for
this role be assigned to the UK East Anglia Hub projects (EA3, EA2 and EA1N) but will also link to the global
Engineering Management Department.
The Design Assurance Manager is responsible for supporting the development, management, and implementation
of the overarching design assurance process for an offshore windfarm project. This role ensures that all design
activities across the project meet the required quality standards and comply with Employer and regulatory
requirements. The successful candidate will play a critical role in mitigating risks associated with the design process,
helping to ensure that the project is delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
The position may require frequent travel to various locations in the UK and overseas and the individual should be
capable of managing teams working at different project locations.
Key Tasks
Design Assurance Process Development:
• Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the design assurance process, ensuring
alignment with project requirements, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Support establishment of suitable design assurance measures, including design reviews, verification, and
validation processes.
Package Coordination and Support:
• Provide guidance, training, and support to Package teams on design assurance practices and processes.
• Support Package teams in the identification and assessment of design-related risks and development of
mitigation strategies to ensure design integrity and compliance. Ensure maintenance of design risk
registers, cumulating in an ALARP register.
• Support Package teams in undertaking due diligence of consultants and contractors.
• Support Package teams in conducting suitable design, construction, and operability reviews.
• Ensure appropriate verification activities are implemented across the project, for instance to verify safety
and environmental critical elements.
Documentation and Reporting:
• Ensure Package teams appropriately plan design assurance activities, e.g. Design Safety and Design
Sustainability Plans, and support, as necessary.
• Ensure accurate and detailed records of design assurance activities, e.g. design reviews, are produced by
Package teams.
• Maintain appropriate audit trails and over-arching compliance documents, e.g. Design Safety Justification.
• Report on Package and Project performance. Generate and report suitable metrics showing assurance
against the assurance indicators, including completeness, compliance, coherence, certainty, and resilience
as per the design assurance procedures.

Continuous Improvement:
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the design assurance process to enhance efficiency and
effectiveness.
• Facilitate lessons learned sessions and ensure knowledge is captured and shared.
Key Criteria
• Degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field.
• Professional certifications in design assurance, quality management, or project management
(e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma, PMP) are advantageous.
• Strong understanding of design assurance principles, methodologies, and best practices.
• Familiarity with engineering design processes and quality management systems.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements in industries such as offshore
wind, oil & gas, marine, or heavy infrastructure.
• Experience in managing design assurance within large-scale projects, preferably in a similar or
related industry.
• Strong project management skills, including planning, risk management, and resource allocation.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex situations and develop
practical solutions.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to critically evaluate design outputs for compliance and
quality.
• Experience in managing design assurance within large-scale projects, preferably in a similar or
related industry.
• Fluent in English.
• IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management
software.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical
information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and influence outcomes.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Flexible to travel around the UK and overseas.
Key Interfaces
Internal:
• Report to the Engineering Manager
• Accountable to the Engineering Department Design Assurance Lead and relevant Project
Engineering Managers.
• Support Package Managers and Engineers in application of Design Assurance activities to
comply with standards and minimise technical risks.
• Collaborate with the other Functional Teams, such as HSE, Quality, Consent Compliance to
ensure their requirements are being appropriately addressed
