Design Engineer

Our client Scottish Power Renewables are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer to join their team based in London or Glasgow on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for a Strong Design Engineer with a background in Civils work as well as at least 2 years experience with offshore wind. Main Purpose of Job
The Design Engineer sits within the Design Management functional team of the Foundations Department, within the Wind Farm Area of Offshore Project Services. The Department provides the expertise and people necessary to manage the delivery of all foundations design and supply contracts into all projects across our global pipeline.

The Design Engineer will be responsible for ensuring a multi-contract foundation design is delivered on time and on budget. Defining and implementing robust and cost effective engineering strategies. Throughout the process, the role is required to be on hand to provide expert, high-level advice, on everything from risk and commercial agreements, to the latest technical developments.

The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across Europe and the rest of the world. The position may require frequent travel to various locations in the UK and overseas and the individual should be capable of managing teams working at different project locations.

Scope
• To manage the interface with Installation contractor from design point of view.
• To manage the interface with Inter Array Cable Contractor.
• To review flanges tolerances mitigations to ensure a proper installation stage. Shimming procedure and ovality tool.
• To mitigate as much as possible late requests from Installation contractor aligning with Design Manager on the search of the most favorable option.
• To ensure that foundations structural design is delivered according to employer’s requirements, safety and quality standards within Iberdrola Group.
• To review the inputs and deliverables from the designer. Management of comments to structural design documentation.
• To provide technical support to the Design Manager from a structural point of view.
• To manage the structural input on the FOU and IAC interfaces with other relevant packages and input providers. To identify risks and effectively manage mitigation measures.
• Reporting to the Design Manager, to act as the key contact person for primary steel design discipline within the Foundations Package. To attend to meetings both face to face and tele conference.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
• Degree and professional qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering
• Substantial postgraduate experience in industry with significant experience in Offshore Wind
• Preferable: experience in the management of installation activities related to offshore foundation design
• IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software.
• Flexible to travel regularly to attend meetings and work at different project sites in a number of countries thought northern Europe and USA, particularly Germany.
• Relevant experience in offshore delivery planning and set up.
• Good knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation associated with offshore/marine delivery substantial packages.
• Good knowledge of offshore procedures, standards and guides.
