Day Rate: £225-£300 per day
Contract: 6-month freelance contract, transitioning to a permanent position

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering contractor for a Freelance Buyer to support a major rail infrastructure project. This role will start as a 6-month freelance contract before transitioning into a permanent position with the company.

Key Responsibilities:
Manage the procurement of materials and services required for the project.
Issue requests for quotations and negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers.
Ensure material orders are aligned with project requirements and budgets.
Maintain accurate purchase requisitions and purchase orders (SAP MM experience beneficial).
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure the timely delivery of goods and services.
Monitor supplier performance and manage any issues that arise with supply or delivery.
Engage with H&S, Sustainability, and Social Value teams to ensure compliance with regulations.
Support prompt payment processes and ensure that contractual terms are met.

Requirements:
Proven experience as a Buyer within civil engineering projects, preferably in rail.
Strong knowledge of procurement processes and supply chain management.
Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in IT systems (SAP MM experience is a plus).
CIPS qualification (desirable but not essential).
Willingness to travel for meetings across the project as needed.

This is a freelance opportunity offering a competitive day rate of £225-£300, with a guaranteed transition to a permanent role after 6 months.
