Pre-Construction Manager

Preconstruction Lead – West Midlands
Location: Birmingham
Position Type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 40 per week
Salary Range: £60,000 - £75,000

Our client is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Lead to manage bids and oversee project preconstruction processes in the East and West Midlands.

This role focuses on taking projects from inception, through bid submissions, and into the start of on-site work. You will be responsible for delivering successful work-winning strategies and managing preconstruction requirements in line with client and project demands.

Key Responsibilities:
Bid Leadership: Oversee bids from initial stages (PQQ/project identification) through to the start of construction
Client Liaison: Build relationships with client representatives, defining win strategies and understanding key drivers for project selection.
Preconstruction Management: Manage preconstruction teams, liaising with design managers, estimators, and construction delivery teams.
Bid Coordination: Lead the preparation and submission of technical and commercial bid elements and direct bid settlement meetings with senior personnel.
Collaboration: Work closely with Business Development Managers, the estimating team, planning managers, and central framework functions, ensuring bids align with project requirements.
Time Management: Coordinate with the Regional Managing Estimator to ensure timely submission of bids.
Design Process: Manage or support the design process during preconstruction, ensuring alignment with project size and complexity.

What We Need From You:
Bid Strategy Development: Proven ability to develop and implement effective bid strategies that align with business plans.
Construction Expertise: Strong technical construction background in design management, commercial or operational roles.
Commercial Acumen: Understand commercial implications and support bid-winning strategies.
Bid Writing Skills: Demonstrable experience in bid submissions and report writing.
Planning Skills: Experience working with planners to create high-quality tender and construction programs.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across multiple teams.
Flexibility: Able to think on your feet, adapt quickly to changing situations, and solve problems.
Construction Qualifications (Desirable): ICIOB, BSc Hons in Construction-related fields, SMSTS training.
