M&E Engineer - Electrical - Review & Acceptance

Morson Talent are working on behalf of a major player within the Energy Sector who have a current requirement for an experienced M&E Engineer - Electrical to join our client’s established site-based team in Somerset. This is a (renewable) contract position – inside IR35.  Site based 3x days per week with balance hybrid.

The successful candidate will comprise part of a wider, multi-national Joint Design Office team responsible for the Electrical Scope review and acceptance of a major infrastructure Project.

The Joint Design O?ce (JDO) has been created to reinforce the site-based engineering to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A primary bene?t of this organisation is to save time for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions.

Overview

  • Reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, the post-holder will be an Electrical Engineer, contributing to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the Piping and Supports scope across the Conventional Island/Balance of Plant and Nuclear Island buildingsT
  • The role will be focused on the electrical discipline but will interface with other disciplines and with several parties, such the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back office).

Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the MEH and NSSS Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
  • Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
  • Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
  • Assist in co-ordinating support from other external organisations.
  • Contribute to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
  • Assess technical risk and subsequently address this risk.

Skills and experience

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience in electrical design, installation and/or commissioning.
  • Experience applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within a highly regulated Industry/Sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction / installation industry.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements (desirable).
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
  • Ability to work independently, be pro-active, report on and escalate relevant issues.
