The Joint Design Office (JDO) has been created to reinforce the site-based engineering, to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A primary benefit of this organisation is to save time for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions to pursue their activities.

The role will interface with: The Main Civil Contractor* (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Technical Experts, Quality teams, Project Management teams and Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site or in the back office).

It is expected that the role holder will move into the Mechanical and Electrical teams as part of their fit-out phase, following completion of the Civils work scope(s).

Typical Activities – Secondary Steelwork/Mechanical Scope:

  • Reporting operationally to the PTLS Discipline Lead.
  • Contributing to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the Main Civil Contractor on the Embedded Steelwork (Pools, Tanks and Liners) scope.
  • Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the Contractors off site (during manufacturing phase) or on site (during the installation phase) with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
  • Performing surveillance of manufacturing documents.
  • Providing adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety requirements are met.
  • Contributing to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
  • Assessing technical risk (and subsequently addressing this risk)

Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience of applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry or other high regulated industrial sectors.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing / construction / installation industry.
  • Experience in welding engineering.
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
  • Ability to work independently, be pro-active, report on and escalate relevant issues.
