Morson Talent are working with a major player within the Energy Sector who have a current requirement for a Senior Commercial Manager with specific responsibilities associated with supplier engagement. This is an interesting role which will demand superior communication and stakeholder liaison skills. To be successful in this position, you will need to have had previous and successful experience in a similar, strategic capacity.
This is full-time, six-month hybrid contract (2 days office attendance – Tues/Weds)with balance of week worked remotely. ** INSIDE IR35 **
Overview
The Supply Chain Directorate is the team responsible for all non-IT related procurement, contract management, contract closure, and supply chain relationship management on this major infrastructure Project.
This role sits within the Directorates’ Client function, whose purpose it is to provide strategic commercial oversight and intelligence to support delivery for the entirety of the Supply Chain lifecycle. This includes verifying that the Directorate has the right people, processes, and systems in place to deliver what’s needed, and delivering compliance and assurance on the processes and systems that are being used. The team is also responsible for putting in place ways of communicating and engaging, both internally and externally, across the Supply Chain and for using data and information to create intelligence which can be used in everyday operations to drive improvement.
Job Purpose:
The Senior Commercial Manager (Supplier Engagement) is responsible for the Project Supply Chain Directorates’ Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) strategy and associated day-to-day activities and project work streams. They will ensure compliance on supplier engagement activities as required within the Supply Chain Management Plan. This position works side by side with the central communications team to ensure that external messaging is consistent and compliant with our client’s data security requirements.
Typical activities:
- Co-ordination of Project Supply Chain liaison, communication, engagement, and education techniques to improve understanding and promote knowledge sharing between our client and the Supply Chain.
- Building long term collaborative relationships with the Supply Chain, specifically targeting the top strategic suppliers through a structured Strategic Supplier Relationship Management (SSRM) process.
- Coordination and assurance that the Project and the Supply Chain develop / implement integrated collaborative teams based on leading edge relationship-management and meeting national and international standards.
- Coordination and assurance that the Project develops staff competency standards in collaboration with the Supply Chain, to enable participation in collaborative delivery relationships following contract award.
- Working with others across the Supply Chain Directorate to ensure the delivery of project workstreams associated with the SRM plan.
Deliverables:
- Review current SRM documentation, procedures and workstreams to optimise the strategic approach and refresh workstreams accordingly. Reporting on the completeness and effectiveness of, and associated risk and opportunities within, the SRM plan.
- Clear tracker of improvement actions and owners to address identified areas of procedural risk and opportunity.
- Represent the Project in cross-network collaboration forums and working groups.
- Ensure supplier relationships documents are maintained, stored and updated in line with the Project Management System timescales and expectations.
- Editorial oversight and delivery of the bi-annual supplier newsletter and event management of face to face supplier engagement activities.
- Liaison with the client team Insights and Improvements (I&I) team in support of supplier and risk mapping.
- Representation on the Supply Chain Directorate Risk and Resilience Working Group.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience and understanding of industry best practice of Supplier Relationship Management.
- A track record of managing Governance (writing documentation, reviewing documentation, ensuring alignment of documentation) - preferably within a nuclear and/or major programme environment.
- A track record of action tracking and monitoring – particularly where action owners are those in senior roles.
- Track record of a structured and diligent approach to reviewing work and identifying issues.
- Basic understanding of NEC & FIDIC forms of contract is desirable.
- Basic understanding of corporate legal requirements is desirable.
- Strong Microsoft office skills with Power BI desirable.
- Ability to work with subject matter experts to take complex information and effectively distil this into key requirements for implementation.
- Ability to engage with individuals at all levels – including holding senior members of staff to account for actions.
- Problem solver who can understand wider strategic context and is prepared to take ownership and work autonomously to deliver requirements which meet these aims.
