Lab Analyst/Technician (Chemistry)

Our Client, Urenco; trusted, long-term supplier to the nuclear industry, specialising in safe, cost effective and reliable uranium enrichment services, are looking for a Lab Analyst/Technician (Chemistry) on a contract basis (inside IR35), to be based in Capenhurst near Chester.

Rate: £19.49 PAYE

Job Purpose
The Chemistry Analyst undertakes a wide range of chemical analysis work against set operational procedures in a safe manner ensuring that analytical results are delivered to time and without error. In addition the Analyst is required to carry out checks and calibrations in the B240 Plant Room and ensure there is a sufficient stock of essential departmental consumables.

The Role

  • The Analyst is part of a team that provides an analytical Chemistry service to the Capenhurst site and the Urenco Group. The role involves duties in the TMF Process Labs and B240
  • The role involves the use of specialist analytical equipment and bespoke software packages
  • Check, resolve and as appropriate escalate where outcomes from their work require more senior and experience intervention or guidance
  • Competent against Nuclear Baseline role B179 Contamination Monitoring
  • Work within a highly regulated environment and must ensure that the wide range of chemical analysis that is carried out are done so in safe and timely manner ensuring adherence to relevant CSD / TMF Tier 3 instructions
  • Although work is assigned at a daily lab meeting the Analyst is expected to work flexibly using their initiative
  • The role involves communication with the Capenhurst site customers

Specific know-how and Skills Required

  • Ability to safely carry out routine analysis duties in the laboratory
  • Ability to monitor and replace, as required, materials and equipment to support routine operations
  • Ability and self-motivation to work effectively with little supervision and to ensure that tasks are completed on time adhering to policies and procedures
  • Perform laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data / results to support specific investigations
  • Record, and sometimes interpret, results to present to senior colleagues
  • Effective interpersonal skills as required to work as part of a team and deliver on the job training to others
  • Understanding of criticality control requirements and the handling of chemicals (COSHH)

Education & Qualifications Required

  • Educated to Level 3 (UK/NI) e.g. A level, BTEC level, NVQ Level 3 in a relevant scientific discipline
