Pre Construction Lead

Morson Talent are currently looking for a Pre Construction Lead to join Sizewell C on a contractual basis until the end of December 2025 but this is likely to be extended due to the length and size of the project.
You will be based on site in Suffolk with frequent travel to London as required.
Job Purpose / Overview
The Site Pre-Construction Lead will lead the pre-construction team and ensure the successful planning and initiation of the Sizewell C project. The role will direct and manage a multidisciplinary pre-construction team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment. Responsibilities will include developing comprehensive project strategies, budgets, and schedules, and overseeing the preparation and review of project estimates to ensure accuracy in cost projections.
The position will work closely with design teams to review and refine project plans and specifications, ensuring feasibility and compliance with all relevant standards. Serving as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders, facilitate clear and effective communication, addressing client needs and concerns promptly. Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers is essential
Ensure safety is the overriding priority for any activity performed by the Pre-construction team(s) and recognize the importance of a strong Nuclear Safety as well as Industrial Safety.

Principal Accountabilities
• Develop and implement a project management and construction support strategy to ensure the delivery of the Sizewell C project to safety, quality, time and cost targets.
• Ensure that work scopes for each programme of work are defined and interfaces to other programmes clearly understood and managed.
• Develop and lead a high performing team, capable of delivering the work scope, with clear roles and responsibilities and delivery accountabilities.
• Drive the delivery of the programme activities to ensure they are delivered safely on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements. Monitor and manage the progress of the programme - track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters. ?
• Anticipate, manage and resolve issues within the programme. Identify risks and facilitate the resolution of all issues raised working closely with other senior colleagues. Monitor and adjust the execution plan where issues arise to ensure the overall programme schedule is met.
• Deliver plan that clearly identifies site needs and dates for critical equipment and materials, includes mitigation actions in time to fully support successful delivery of the site schedule.
• Foster and promote collaboration between Pre-Constructions team(s), MDT team members and supply chain partners to achieve ‘best for project’ outcomes.
• Ensure level 3 schedules are developed and maintained for the programme and that schedules are consistent with overall Project schedules (levels 1 and level 2). Work with the Head of Integrated Project Controls to manage discrepancies.
• Ensure that programme contractual requirements are fulfilled and work with the Head of Commercial for Site Delivery to maintain the highest standards of commercial and contractual rigour.
• Support the SZC Site Delivery Director in ensuring the highest standards of safety are maintained in terms of CDM Regulations and Industrial, Environmental and Nuclear safety.
• Liaise with regulators and other external stakeholders to ensure they fully understand the programme and any changes made to it and to manage any regulatory interventions.
• Maintain an overview of the quality of work delivered and instigate remedial action where required.
• Provide an interface between the Engineering function and the Delivery organisation to ensure the plant is built as designed.
• Implementing a construction readiness review process on work scope packages based on complexity. Readiness review will be based around the construction sequence planning process developed for J0 and will be conducted on a rolling wave basis based on a time scale and frequency commensurate with work scope complexity.
• Providing appropriate information and formal reporting to the Exec team
• Producing and continuously improving the monthly management reporting.
• Provide leadership to a team to ensure they are fully aware of, and deliver, their objectives and goals and that the “visions, values and ambitions” of the business are communicated and lived.
• Ensure all staff are trained to an excellent standard thus strengthening business capability to drive optimal performance.
• Proactively identify and develop a talent pipeline and ensure this meets organisational succession needs.

Knowledge & Skills
Essential
• Possess a good understanding of project planning processes and the ability to identify and resolve and manage complex interfaces. Experience across many types of EPC contracts, specifically knowledge of NEC and FIDIC contracts.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Strong management and communication skills and commercial awareness are essential.
• Specific knowledge, skills, qualification and experience include:
• Experience and understanding of working in a Nuclear and Safety Quality Culture.
• Understanding and awareness of working in a highly regulated environment.
• Experience operating in a high security environment advantageous.
• Knowledge if piping system design, installation and testing.
• Knowledge of pressure systems regulations and Nuclear Pressure Systems.
• Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Equivalent in Construction Management or related subject or a demonstrable level of experience based on years of experience and project assignments.
• Extensive working knowledge in the delivery of large complex construction projects.
• Management of strategic planning developing construction sequencing and recovery plans.
• In-depth knowledge and experience of programme progress and forecast position and planning.
• Good working knowledge of commercial principles affecting construction matters.
• Awareness of project change control and risk management processes.
• Ability to build and manage a diverse and high performing team.
• Ability to work collaboratively and in an integrated team environment.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Motivational approach and the ability to energise team members by building a climate of trust and understanding.

Qualifications & Experience
The Pre-Construction will have broad knowledge of Engineering, Procurement and Construction activities and the integration of these activities. In addition, they will possess a good understanding of project planning processes and the ability to identify and resolve and manage complex interfaces. This includes experience across many types of EPC contracts, specifically knowledge of NEC and FIDIC contracts.

Have the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
