Waste Technician

We’re looking for Waste Technician, based at our Capenhurst site location you’ll, carry out safe operations in accordance with SSOW and company/operating instructions. Operate plant equipment in order to ensure delivery to programmes. Work to a high quality of attention to detail to ensure compliant inspection, storage and processing of radioactive materials with relation to Operations and its associated operations and contribute to the improvement of a safe environment / general housekeeping of the working area, particularly in their own area of responsibility. Where appropriate, assist in the training and development of others to appropriate standards. Complies with all legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and procedures eg) safety, quality, risk, security etc. Carrying out waste management activities such as: Sorting, Segregating, Sampling, Assay / Characterisation, Processing and Collection/transport.

What you’ll do:

• Deliver waste operations provision for UUK, UCP and UNS.
• Ensure all activities are carried out in a way that ensures a high standard of conventional safety in accordance with the HASAW Act.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve the operations process.
• Undertake Continuous improvements and support the business with input into problem solving activities.
• Completion of work as identified in the weekly schedule and the WMF Performance Centre.
• To escalate any concerns on failure to meet the schedule requirements to the relevant Personnel within UNS Waste Operations and Waste Service.
• Ensure training profile is up to date to maximise SQEP ability.
• Undertake Health Physics monitoring of waste destined for off-site disposal.

What do you need to thrive in this role?

• IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
• Working towards or an appointed Level 2 Health Physics Monitor.
• A clean Driving Licence.
• Forklift truck license to carry out material handling. B1 license is essential whilst B2 and B3 are both desirable.
• Competent in the use of Materials Handling based waste operations.
