Key Objectives:
The role is working within an established project team currently undertaking the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the Traction Power Centralised Management System (TPCMS) which is replacing existing life expired SCADA systems and migrating to a single national platform.
We are looking for a Project Engineer to support the project by undertaking a varied and wide range of activities on the project from development of designs, project implementation plans to on site testing.
Responsibilities of the role will include;
• Ensuring the engineering activities required to deliver the migration, recoveries and handover of the SCADA project are coordinated and implemented
• Undertaking on site testing of SCADA equipment.
• Responsible for providing engineering support and resolving issues which are raised during the work and coordinate with others to ensure the issues are resolved or mitigated as appropriate.
• Production of Design documentation, schedules and drawings to meet project and tender requirements.
• Production of Implementation Strategies and Plans to meet the project requirements
• Production of Test Strategies, Specifications and Plans to meet the project recruitments.
• Provide technical support and investigation of issues which arise on PLC / SCADA systems both in operational use and during implementation. This will require an in-depth knowledge of the protocols utilised between the control system and the PLC.
• Configure PLC / SCADA equipment to meet the functional requirements of the project
• Undertake on site surveys of existing systems to support the design and configuration of the PLC / SCADA systems..
Typical Deliverables for the Role
Deliverables include:
• Interface Control Documents – Detailing the interface between the control system and PLC equipment
• Design Documentation – Outline / Conceptual, Detailed, Functional Design Documents, Drawings and Schedules to support the projects and tenders.
• Risk Registers – Assessment of CDM and technical risk.
• Test Documentation – Development of Integration and Test Specifications and Plans.
• Surveys and data capture/analysis to support ongoing configuration
• Support production of support and maintenance processes
• Support on-site installation and testing
• Scope of Works – Technical scope of work for suppliers utilized within projects and tenders
• Tender Returns – Technical responses to support tenders and new works
Business Operations Skills
Experience:
• Proven experience working as a Systems Engineer or Project Engineer in delivery of Electrification & Plant (E&P), SCADA or Telecoms related projects, leading technical aspects and producing deliverables in Mainline Rail or Metro environment. Individuals with experience in other industries will be considered.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate within a project team.
• Proven experience and knowledge of new and legacy SCADA / Telecoms systems on Network Rail infrastructure as follows:
• SCADA – e.g. ABB RTU 540, Siemens Fastflex or equivalent
• Control Systems – e.g Siemens Cromos or Railcomm or equivalent
• Cable Networks (Fibre, Copper, Structured)
• IP Networking
• Cyber Security Principles within the industrial control environment
• Infrastructure Engineers (VMware Environments)
• Knowledge and experience with SCADA protocols such as: IEC60870-5-101/103/104, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus & TCP/IP.
Skills/Qualifications:
• Incorporated or Chartered Engineer
• Degree in relevant discipline (Electrical / Electronic / Automation)
• IRSE Telecoms ‘Project Engineer’ licence (2.2.230) or ‘Engineering Manager - Project Engineer’ licence (7.8.110F).
• Working knowledge of HSE and CDM and Safety Critical Works Regulations.
• Working knowledge of Network Rail, LUL and Railway Group standards.
• Minimum of Network Rail PTS qualification.
