Site Agent - Durham
Responsible for managing and overseeing all day-to-day activities on civil engineering schemes within the General Civils Sector. The role involves ensuring project delivery aligns with safety, quality, and programme requirements while fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. The company is actively delivering a diverse range of projects, including high street public realm refurbishments, highways projects, bus station schemes, large 278 schemes, port refurbishments, and bridge deck refurbishments. Key Responsibilities
- Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
- Conduct inductions and toolbox talks (TBTs).
- Develop, review, and approve Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS), including subcontractor RAMS.
- Lead by example, ensuring health, safety, and environmental best practices are maintained at all times.
- Produce site construction phase plans.
- Fulfil the role of Temporary Works Coordinator in line with procedural requirements.
- Possesses a strong knowledge of basic engineering principles.
- Mentors and develops engineers, leading by example.
- Provides problem-solving and troubleshooting expertise, thinking outside the box to optimise cost and programme benefits.
- Manages information flow and technical queries effectively.
- Assists the Project Planner with programme development and monthly updates.
- Has a basic understanding of planning software.
- Understands contractual requirements (NEC Cl31, Cl32, and Cl60s).
- Develops the weekly programme independently.
- Monitors progress and plans key deliverables, including the procurement schedule.
- Commercial & Financial Management
- Has experience in monthly commercial reporting.
- Understands various contract forms (NEC/JCT).
- Develops and produces procurement schedules.
- Maintains accurate records of measurements for direct and subcontract works, supporting the commercial team.
- Assists with variations, quotations, and subcontractor reviews/appraisals.
- Identifies risks and opportunities, reporting them to management.
- Record Keeping & Progress Reporting
- Prepares daily and weekly progress reports for the project.
- Utilizes document management systems effectively.
- Chairs weekly internal and client progress meetings.
- Produces monthly reports in line with contract requirements.
- Ensures compliance with daily and weekly reporting standards across the site team.
- Confidently delivers project presentations to clients and management teams.
- Maintains company quality assurance documentation for ISO 9001, 14001, and 18001 systems.
- Fully embraces sector QA procedures and ensures compliance.
- Identifies defective works and ensures timely rectification.
- Leads by example, ensuring subcontractors and teams deliver projects to the highest standards.
- Compiles and manages documentation for Health & Safety files and project handovers.
Experience and Qualifications
- HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in delivering civil engineering schemes (£100k - £5 million).
- Strong IT skills, including experience with project management software.
- CSCS Gold Card (minimum).
- 5-day SMSTS certification.
- First Aid at Work certificate (desirable).
- Holds a UK driving licence (clean or minimal points).
