Security Engineer – Contractor

6 months with the likelihood of extension

Fully remote

£500 – 600 inside IR35

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Security Engineer to join our security implementation and delivery team. This role is ideal for a self-driven individual with expertise in network security, firewalls, and cloud platforms. You will work closely with various stakeholders to deliver security solutions in an Agile environment. This role includes triaging customer requirements, supporting junior engineers, and providing expertise across a wide range of security technologies. Occasional out-of-hours support may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within the security implementation and delivery team to achieve project objectives.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups and work in 2-week sprints, following SAFe methodologies.
  • Manage workloads using project management tools, ensuring timely delivery of tasks.
  • Contribute to the security infrastructure, focusing on firewall estates.
  • Triage customer requirements, converting them into actionable deliverables.
  • Provide support and guidance to junior engineers on troubleshooting and escalations.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams and solution descriptions.
  • Conduct knowledge transfer sessions for the team when necessary.
  • Support security operations occasionally outside of standard business hours.

Technical Skills & Experience: We are looking for candidates with demonstrable experience and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Enterprise-grade Next Generation Firewalls: Extensive experience with Fortinet and Palo Alto technologies.
  • Management Platforms: Experience with tools like FortiManager and Panorama.
  • Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) Platforms: Familiarity with secure access and edge solutions.
  • Expert Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and solve complex security problems analytically.
  • Security Architecture: Strong understanding of security architecture principles.
  • Networking: Solid knowledge of routing, switching, and general network principles.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Experience with AWS and Azure environments.
  • Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM): Understanding of cloud security best practices.
  • Vulnerability Management & Email Hygiene Solutions: Experience with solutions such as Tenable and Mimecast.
  • Enterprise Network Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with monitoring and managing security infrastructure.
  • Firewall Administration: Experience in managing security policies, configuring security profiles, and protections on firewalls.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong stakeholder management and customer-facing skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Agile development and operations methodologies such as SAFe or Scrum.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, especially when liaising with both IT and business teams.
  • Knowledge of security operations, compliance, risk, and governance practices.
  • Previous experience working with a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) is an advantage.
  • Experience in heavily regulated industries (e.g., nuclear) is highly desirable.

Security Clearance: Security Check (SC) clearance is a mandatory requirement for this role.
