The Role
We are recruiting for an experienced and dedicated Mechanical Machinery Project Manager to lead the Mechanical Department and oversee the day-to-day operations in both onboard and workshop settings. This is a senior managerial role where you will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of ship repair projects within safety, quality, and budgetary targets. You will be at the helm of improving operational performance, managing resources, and driving continuous improvement across the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Mechanical Department, ensuring smooth work processes in compliance with relevant procedures and regulations.
- Develop and monitor annual departmental budgets for labour, OPEX, and CAPEX, ensuring financial performance aligns with company targets.
- Oversee the management of raw materials, equipment organisation, people resources, and administrative processes to ensure efficiency and cost control.
- Review project scopes, establish production objectives, and create production schedules to ensure on-time delivery of all shipyard projects.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Clients, and Classification Societies to resolve project issues and ensure alignment across all functions.
- Ensure optimum use of resources, including labour and equipment, while maintaining cost control throughout the year.
- Implement systems and procedures to track and monitor productivity metrics and continuously improve departmental performance.
- Lead change management initiatives, driving continuous improvement and fostering a culture of high performance and accountability.
- Ensure all project activities are captured for billing purposes, and that detailed reports are prepared and shared with management.
- Authorise the purchase of equipment, spares, and materials as necessary, ensuring all procurement aligns with the project requirements and budgets.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental management policies, prioritising employee safety and legislative compliance.
- Actively support and drive well-being and wellness programs, promoting a safe and healthy work environment.

- Direct Reports: Heads of Department (HOD), Engineers, Supervisors
What We Are Looking For
- A Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. A Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer Officer) Class 3 to 1 (Motor Ship) is a plus.
- Project management qualification is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience in the shipyard industry in a managerial capacity leading a department.
- Expert knowledge of ship engines, machining tools, ship repair, conversion, and offshore/onshore operations.
- Proven ability to manage resources effectively and optimise departmental performance while maintaining strict budgetary and safety standards.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, develop, and lead a diverse team.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a results-oriented approach to work.
- Strong communication skills, capable of liaising effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
