Technical Planner

Job Purpose / Overview

As a member of the Central Controls Team within the Planning Discipline of Project Controls, you will report to the IPC Planning Manager and be responsible for managing the Level 2/4 (client) Integrated Work Schedule (IWS) in accordance with HPC processes. This involves managing the alignment of Level 3 (contract) schedules and providing time-related data and analysis. You will also support the IPC Planning Manager in leading central Planning activities for the Project and in developing Planning standards, policies, and strategies.

Principal Accountabilities

Team:

  • Support the IPC Area Planner in implementing and maintaining Project Controls processes for Planning, including the production of monthly reports, by providing intelligent information and analysis.

Core Processes:

  • Produce and maintain the schedule baseline IWS in Primavera 6 (P6), with fully logic-linked work plans aligned to the Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and utilising approved construction techniques.
  • Ensure the Level 2/4 IWS is updated within an agreed timeframe.
  • Assist in the Trend & Change process by providing analysis at the Project level, generating performance indicators, and providing feedback on potential risks and opportunities.
  • Identify, analyse, and provide solutions to time-related issues.
  • Coordinate, verify, and produce Project-level schedule reports on a defined reporting cycle, including commentary on key time-related drivers and performance issues.
  • Adhere to Project governance and Scheduling standards and procedures.
  • Ensure all Project documents, particularly Sensitive Nuclear Information, are correctly protectively marked and protected in accordance with EDF policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

  • Detailed understanding of scheduling methodologies and techniques.
  • Technical and practical comprehension of engineering, procurement, and construction methods and techniques in a UK context.
  • Ability to produce accurate, complete, and fully logic-linked construction plans.
  • Good working knowledge of P6.
  • Understanding of other Disciplines of Project Controls (particularly Estimating, Cost and Risk) including management techniques and associated software.
  • Understanding of earned value analysis.
  • Understanding of various contract types, particularly the NEC suite and FIDIC.
  • Working knowledge of schedule risk analysis techniques.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • High level of analytical and numerical skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all working and management levels.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum of a degree in Engineering, Construction, or a related field, or HND or equivalent qualification with recognised experience equivalent to a degree.
  • Professionally qualified with chartered or equivalent status.
  • Proven relevant experience in a Project Management or Project Controls environment in a similar Scheduling role on a major construction project.
  • Experience in the use of scheduling software, ideally Primavera P6 version 7 and above.
  • Experience of commercial contracting.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the use of an earned value management tool, such as EcoSys.
  • Experience of developing estimates and budgets for major infrastructure programmes.
  • Experience of working in a large integrated team over the full lifecycle of a project.
  • Experience in the use of a risk management tool, such as ARM.
  • Experience in presenting complex information to senior executives and shareholders.
  • Experience in the Nuclear sector.
