10 Dock Services – Senior Engineer (Dockside Rigs and Dock Bottom Village)
Overall Department Direction
The Major Infrastructure Projects Business Unit has been set up to establish and maintain a Strategic Infrastructure Plan for the Devonport site through to at least 2050 and to safely and effectively deliver the ‘major’ capital works projects that result from the Plan.
The role sits within the 10 Dock Astute Project. Currently there is a vacancy for a Senior Engineer to support the Dockside Rigs and Dock Bottom Villages packages, primarily from a mechanical engineering perspective. The focus of this role will be supporting the engineering capability of the new systems through design phases, procurement, manufacture, commissioning, and handover into operations.
Main Purpose of Role
The role will be supporting the project team to deliver the Dockside Rigs and Dock Bottom Village to the required scope, quality, schedule and cost. Responsible for managing the engineering and technical aspects from identification of the need through to handover.
The role holder will ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget. This will also include ensuring the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
The role holder will be required to comply with effective Quality Management Arrangements, operating and delivering through compliance with Babcock’s Business Management System and Technical Manual.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
The post holder must be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and sound understanding of engineering practice required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle:
• Capital Equipment
• Mechanical Handling Systems
• Steel and Aluminium Handling and Processing Industries
• Heavy Industry Workshop and Process Lines
• Maritime Defence
• Oil / Gas / Subsea
Sound project specification, planning, project management and budgeting experience to support design, construction / manufacture, acceptance, installation, operation and repair.
Experience of substantiation of process equipment for justification of Nuclear Safety Functions.
Experience using:
• NEC 4 ECC and PSC contracts (Options A, C & E)
• CEMAR - (desirable)
• Proficient in relevant engineering office computer applications (essential)
• Buildings Information Management (BIM) - (desirable)
• Proficient in MS office suite
• Capable of being SC cleared.
• CDM 2015 regs
Qualifications
A degree, degree apprentice or demonstrable time served in an appropriate engineering discipline.
Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council (or actively working towards).
