We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Lead Engineer - Software Assurance to be involved in industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.
What we’re looking for
A Lead Software Assurance Engineer working on ensuring the development and assurance programmes for safety-critical software are executed appropriately across the Rolls-Royce SMR. This will include working alongside various departments and suppliers to establish appropriate development processes are established auditing of supply chain for compliance to standards and selecting and executing programmes of confidence-building measures in line with regulatory expectations in the UK and elsewhere.
- The role involves working across the whole lifecycle of C&I systems both classified for nuclear safety applications as well as those supporting conventional safety and environmental protection functions.
- You will act as an intelligent customer dependent on the task you are working on.
- You will be responsible for delivering agreed programmes of work.
- You could be managing contract partners for work they will be delivering.

Key selection criteria for this role are:
Knowledge of standards, assessment frameworks and relevant good practice relevant to the assessment of software-based systems, FPGA-based systems or off-the-shelf programmable devices (e.g., SMART devices)
Experience and knowledge of relevant national or international standards (for example, BS EN61513, BS EN 60880, BS EN 62566, BS EN 62138, etc.) or equivalents. Experience of performing
and overseeing audits using international standards such as IEC 61508 , or developing systems to similar standards.
Strong background, knowledge and experience of working with different technologies used in software-based or FPGA-based systems or off-the-shelf devices.
Working knowledge across the lifecycle of software-based C&I systems, SMART Devices, HDLProgrammed Devices (HPDs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) etc. performing safety critical
functions. Knowledge and experience of specifying and/or executing various software or FPGA verification techniques, system-level test or other hardware-in-the-loop verification techniques.
The ability to provide technical oversight of the work carried out by supply chain partners i.e., discharging the intelligent customer role
Experience of providing technical oversight to supply chain partners on various aspects for software based C&I systems and SMART Devices. Experience of engaging suppliers in supporting them
through unfamiliar qualification processes.
Experience in Information management and effective communication
Experience in taking information, understanding, and presenting it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications to the appropriate stakeholders. Experience of
working with other disciplines to ensure common understanding of complex assurance requirements, and to understand the needs of the plant.
Training & Qualification Requirements
- Degree level qualification or equivalent knowledge by experience in engineering, mathematics, computer science or a related subject
Pay and Benefits
We anticipate paying a salary of between £57,600 - £75,600 (DOE) plus:-
- Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
- Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
- Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
- Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
- Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
- Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
- £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
