Environmental and Sustainability Advisor

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Location: Remote, site visits across London (2-5 per month)
  • Rate: £350 - £450 p/d (outside IR35)
  • Sector experience required: Rail

Our client are a leading telecommunications business who provide services to a variety of sectors, including transportation.

They currently require the services of an Environmental and Sustainability advisor to support on a variety of projects across London.

Within this role, you will play a key role in implementing the Sustainability Strategy and supporting Asset Management & Rail businesses to meet waste and carbon reduction objectives, customer expectations, ISO14001 and legal requirements.  

Key Deliverables  

  • Provide specialist direction and advice to assigned EHS teams and relevant Project leads for environment and sustainability to meet customer and regulatory requirements within the assigned Contracts and/or Business Unit 
  • Ensure the collation and presentation of performance data and the provision of carbon management reports for customer and contract requirements.  
  • Support the E&S Manager as necessary to develop recommendations for the Business Unit environmental and sustainability approach in line with Telent and Customer direction on Environment, Net Zero, Social Value and Carbon Management (e.g. PAS2080), influencing Senior Management decision making in relation to Business Unit environmental objectives and commitments. 
  • Deliver all required environmental assurance regime activities to required programme including any risk-based site audit programme, ensuring effective audit and assurance practices through the assigned inspections and audit to review arrangements to meet corporate and contract obligations.  
  • Create strong working relationships with the Business Unit EHS leads across Telent, to support the Business Unit environmental and sustainability objectives. 
  • Contribute advice and support to the E&S community framework (e.g. E&S Working Group). 
  • Protect the business by ensuring that regular effective reviews of key Business Unit environmental aspects and impacts are carried out including the evaluation of climate change risks. 
  • Advise the BU EHS team and responsible Project Managers so that suitable treatment and response plans are established and/or Environmental Management Plans created and updated,  
  • Support the Bid, Design and Operational Teams as required to ensure that sustainable and carbon reduction practices are embedded at all stages of the Project Life Cycle. 
  • Support the preparation of sustainability and carbon reduction plans for contracts and bid responses. 

Responsibilities 

  • Creating and maintaining strong working relationships with the E&S community and key BU stakeholders 
  • Effective and timely performance data collation and the provision of performance reports in line with customer and corporate requirements 
  • Carrying out risk-based assurance.  
  • Carrying out performance and compliance analysis using all available information (including results of risk-based assurance. 
  • Participate as an active member of the E&S Framework for Telent including the timely delivery of any project deliverables as agreed with the Group Environment & Sustainability Manager. 
  • Developing and delivering good quality E&S awareness and instruction to suitable communication programmes (e.g. Toolbox Talks) and schedules to support the BU understanding and competency. 
  • Liaison with delivery teams to ensure environmental and sustainability commitments are integrated into delivery.  
  • Advise on/define training to support identified gaps/areas for improvement. 
  • Effective reviews of impacts and aspects to ensure suitable treatment and response plans are established. 
  • Ensure compliance of BU processes with Telent standards, Legal requirements and ISO14001 and industry best practice. 
  • Development of assigned bid responses in line with requested timelines. 
  • Maintain the standard of Environmental Management Planning within the Project Lifecycle 

Qualifications / Skill Requirements 

  • Degree qualified in related subjects (e.g. environmental management) 
  • Appropriate memberships (minimum PIEMA with active MIEMA journey) 
  • Full driving license 
  • ISO14001:2015 Lead Auditor 
  • Experience of providing technical sustainability and environmental advice for business operations 
  • Knowledge of the application of environmental standards relating to products, services and buildings. 
  • Experience of delivering tangible reductions in the impact of equipment and infrastructure on the environment through the stages of product lifecycle, including: 
  • Implementation and promotion of a reduction in waste 
  • Implementation and promotion of the re-use and recycling of materials
