My client, a leading real estate services firm, is seeking an experienced Property Accountant for a 12-month fixed-term contract.
This remote position offers a unique opportunity to lead an accounting team and support both clients and operations by applying expert judgement, sound accounting principles, and a strategic approach. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate accounting and proven management experience, with the ability to work independently and effectively in a remote setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and Supervise the Accounting Team: Guide, mentor, and provide day-to-day oversight of the accounting team, ensuring they deliver effective support to clients and internal operations.
- Oversee Key Client Accounts: Manage market, strategic, and key client portfolios, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders including city leads, strategic clients, and internal teams.
- Monitor and Improve Team Performance: Regularly assess team performance, address any deficiencies, and implement training programs as needed to develop and enhance skills.
- Ensure Financial Compliance: Review financial reports for quality, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards. Approve financial transactions and ensure timely tax payments.
- Drive Process Efficiency: Assess and refine departmental workflows and policies to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Provide recommendations for system improvements.
- Manage SOC 1 Audit Compliance: Track team compliance with SOC 1 audit controls, ensuring proper governance and oversight of all financial transactions.
- Develop Talent: Set goals for direct reports, conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support their career development through coaching and mentorship.
- Lead Strategic Projects: Collaborate with the leadership team to achieve departmental goals, spearhead key projects, and actively participate in the Client Accounting committee.
- New Business Onboarding: Coordinate the onboarding of new clients, assist with pricing and proposal development, and ensure smooth transitions for both new and existing accounts.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as needed to support the overall success of the team and the firm.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Seven to ten years of relevant experience in real estate accounting or a similar field, with at least 2+ years of management experience.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of Yardi and/or MRI accounting software is highly preferred. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, is required. Experience with financial reporting for multiple entities is also beneficial.
- Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated leadership and accountability skills, with the ability to train, mentor, and develop team members. Strong delegation skills, combined with a results-oriented approach and a sense of urgency.
- Organisational Skills: Excellent customer service, time management, and organisational abilities to meet deadlines and handle multiple responsibilities.
- Compliance Focus: Ability to track and ensure compliance with SOC 1 audit controls and other regulatory requirements.
