Senior Engineer – Seamanship (Mechanical / Marine Engineering)
Glasgow, Portsmouth or Filton (can chose from most convenient location, hybrid working with 1 or 2 days per week on site) – 12 month duration – Pay rate £31.29 p/h PAYE basic (£35.84 p/h including holiday pay) or £42.08 p/h Umbrella
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer or Senior Marine Engineer to work for our naval client, you will be assigned to flexible engineering ‘tiger team’ who will be directed towards a variety of engineering problems within their area of expertise. There are existing team members working from Glasgow, Portsmouth and Filton, so you will be able to chose which of these locations is most convenient and work from that office 1 or 2 days per week, with the remainder working from home.
You will undertake a defined range of activities including Seamanship system development & verification, compartment design & system integration activities, in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements. Supplying advice and support to internal and external customers ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and cost.
This will require knowledge of naval and / or commercial ship seamanship systems with the ability to support system and spatial integration issues with other disciplines.
Seamanship includes (but is not limited to) the design or operation of;
• Anchor Handling, Mooring and Towing Equipment
• Boat Launch and Recovery
• Mission Bay Handling System
• RCS Hull Closures
• Ceremonial Arrangements
• Ship’s Lifts and Food Hoists
• Replenishment at Sea (RAS)
• Lifesaving Systems
Key accountabilities:
• Prepare Technical Equipment Specifications, develop designs in line with all specifications and co-ordinate with suppliers to ensure delivery to the agreed specification.
• Produce Procurement Pack documentation.
• Carry out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support improvements to the design.
• Co-ordinate with systems engineers and detail designers on the integration of Seamanship systems.
• Make Engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
• Review, check & sign off calculations/documents completed by Seamanship Engineers.
• Undertake general business and other design and integration activities, in support of maturing the CSC design, as directed by Line Management.
• Liaise with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters.
Requirements:
• Naval/mechanical or marine engineering background.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to management and peers.
• Displays flexibility through response to changes.
• Able to perform analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements.
• Has sufficient capability to be able to make correct trade-off decisions.
Additional information:
• Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the projects involved, all candidates must be capable of gaining a UK Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) Security Clearance.
• This role shall operate inside IR35.
