Electric vehicle chargers powering Morson Group’s journey on the road to Net Zero
Morson Group has taken another step on the road to achieving Net Zero status with the installation of over 40 new charging points for electrical vehicles across our Manchester offices.
2022 marks the first year that the Morson Group fleet is made up of more plug-in hybrid and electric cars than diesel or petrol. Installing these new EV ports is a significant investment towards future-proofing our facilities ahead of a further rise in electric vehicles in the coming years.
At Adamson House, the additional installs take the total number of EV chargers to in excess of 30, including 4 in our visitor bays at the front of the building. A further 12 chargers have also been installed at Morson Projects in Irlam.
The 22KW Easee chargers fit all types of electric cars and power supplies and maximise the available electrical capacity within any building. They provide an agile and powerful solution to delivering EV charging at scale within workplaces, apartment blocks or car parks.
The Easee charger allows up to 101 chargers to be load balanced per fuse, which aids scalability. With a fully built-in autonomous, intelligent load-balancing system, it ensures that the power is evenly balanced and measured accurately through an app. The chargers were installed by Sequential Dynamics.
The Morson Group has committed to continually reducing our total Greenhouse Gas Emissions in absolute terms and achieving Net Zero emissions by 2023. This will be achieved through absolute emission reduction and offsetting the residual amounts. As of 2021, 82% of our emissions were derived from Operational Road Travel and other business travel.
We aim to reduce our business travel emissions through the greater use of technology including virtual meetings. We are committed to the de-carbonisation of our road vehicles, both our company cars. To this end, we are committed to achieving a 95% electric car total by the end of 2023, and the installation of new EV technology at our offices goes a long way towards preparing for that goal.
Gareth Morris, Morson Group’s HSQE director, commented on the installation:
“The Morson Group is progressing along its Road to Zero carbon reduction strategy. An important element of this strategy is the phased reduction in our vehicle emissions. Our Fleet Manager David Robinson has introduced low emission and zero emission cars into our corporate fleet and they now account for more than 50% of the total fleet, and in the next 3 years virtually all the company car fleet will be low or zero emission vehicles.
Morson are supporting this transition through the introduction of (number) new charging points in addition to the (number) of existing ones. We have also completed work to ensure the infrastructure is in place for the future addition of even more charging points as we transition to low or zero carbon forms of transport. The introduction of these additional charging points is an important milestone on The Road to Zero.”
We currently offset 95% of our Morson Group commercial vehicle emissions through the 100% fuel offset schemes for commercial vehicles at both Morson Talent and Vital. Electricity consumption on our premises accounts for 14% of our carbon emissions and we have already commenced BIM modelling of our premises by Morson Projects and Waldeck in pursuit of building efficiency.
