Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Safety Case Engineer to join our team in Warrington. This role is a contract position with flexible working hours and falls under the Inside IR35 regulations. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a BPSS check, which necessitates having lived and worked in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Guidance:
Provide expert strategic advice to inform and direct safety-related policies, projects, and programs. - Nuclear Safety Integration:
Ensure that nuclear safety requirements are effectively integrated into design projects, from conception through to completion. - Safety Case Strategy:
Develop, prepare, and agree on the Safety Case Strategy, ensuring alignment with project goals and regulatory requirements. - Project Management:
Oversee the delivery of safety case work within agreed budgets and timelines, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction (including Safety Case Managers, Client Teams, and Regulatory Bodies). - Documentation and Reporting:
Produce, verify, and approve critical safety documentation, including calculations, analyses, design basis documents, and technical reports. - Stakeholder Communication:
Act as the primary point of contact for all key stakeholders, ensuring clear and consistent communication between engineering teams, safety assessors, site managers, and other relevant parties. - Hazard Identification:
Lead and participate in Hazard Identification (HAZID) studies to identify and mitigate potential risks. - Safety Submission Coordination:
Coordinate the production and review of safety submissions, incorporating specialist safety input and managing the approval process. - Design Review and Approval:
Review and approve design changes, technical queries, and concessions to ensure compliance with safety standards. - Risk Management:
Manage project risks by closing out safety-related issues recorded in the Technical Issues and Risk Register. - Quality Assurance:
Develop quality plans for safety case work packages, ensuring adherence to high standards throughout the project lifecycle. - Technical Scopes of Work:
Produce, verify, and approve technical scopes of work, assess tender returns, and ensure subcontractor outputs meet design requirements. - Knowledge Sharing:
Provide leadership in key technical areas, drive innovation, and facilitate the training and development of junior staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in a Science or Engineering-related discipline.
- Chartered status (preferred but not essential).
Experience & Knowledge:
- Extensive cross-industry experience, particularly within the nuclear sector.
- Proven experience in developing and preparing safety documentation, including Hazard Management Strategies, Safety Reports, and ALARP arguments.
- Strong background in coordinating safety submissions and managing teams to deliver complex safety cases.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory negotiation, safety management, and the provision of specialist advice.
- Experience mentoring, training, and developing junior engineers.
