“It is with a very heavy heart that I have to inform you that, on Friday 24th July, at 2.45pm, my father, Gerry Mason, who founded MORSON in 1969, sadly and peacefully passed away at the age of 77.
It was a huge and unexpected shock to us all as he was not suffering from any illness. In the eyes of my family, friends and colleagues my father was a legend, held in high esteem by so many.
His life’s journey was full of too many achievements to list in this announcement. After emigrating to Canada he returned home, in 1969, aged 30, with my mum and their young family, to form MORSON, operating from our family home in Eccles, Manchester.
My father retired from his day to day role in the business in 1998 and remained an active member of the Board right up until he passed away, providing us with invaluable advice and the benefit of his wit and wisdom.
Morson’s standards today are based on the strong principles and core values he set for us. He ensured that integrity, quality and hard work are woven throughout the Company’s fabric. His drive and desire for the Company to be the best, through hard work and commitment to excellence throughout the business, was matched by his sense of fun and its value in business – and at home.
Away from the business, his faith gave him great strength and enhanced his natural determination to help others. Over many years my parents have made many generous charitable donations helping many people’s lives. My father always encouraged the Company to follow these principles.
He always told me that his greatest achievement was to marry my mum and, together, to build a strong family. They had four children and now have 13 grandchildren. He was a remarkable family man and always put us first.
My father leaves behind a legacy of a solid, thriving and very successful, industry leading business. I ask everyone in the Company to work with me to retain and carry forward his principles, ethics and ambition.
On behalf of all the Mason family I personally thank everyone for their kind wishes and words of support which have been very comforting to our family during this difficult time.
May my father rest in peace and god bless him.
Ged Mason and family”
