Maintenance and Automation Engineer
Morson is currently recruiting an experienced Maintenance and Automation Engineer to support production tooling and CNC automation at our Aerospace Manufacturing clients’ facility in Bristol. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic engineering environment, where you’ll play a key part in the maintenance, repair, and optimisation of bespoke tooling and automated systems.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Tool Engineering:
Provide ongoing support for the maintenance and repair of bespoke jigs and fixtures.
Investigate and resolve tooling-related issues through practical problem-solving on the shop floor.
Prepare and implement preventative maintenance schedules for production tooling.
Evaluate, repair, and commission tooling for use in manufacturing.
Work closely with external suppliers on tooling repairs, replacements, and maintenance projects.
Automation:
Maintain and troubleshoot Numerical Control (NC) Programs used in 5-axis CNC drilling machines.
Validate and optimise NC programs to improve manufacturing processes.
Support the integration and testing of NC programs within production environments.
Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Work Preparation teams to ensure smooth deployment of automated processes.
Industrial Maintenance:
Assist in diagnosing complex issues in industrial systems and equipment.
Follow technical manuals, diagrams, and engineering specs for troubleshooting.
Contribute to the creation of technical specs and equipment obsolescence analyses.
Proactively participate in Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) initiatives.
What You’ll Bring:
Essential:
NC programming knowledge (Fanuc/Siemens)
HNC or equivalent experience (>10 years in Jig & Tool Design/Maintenance)
Familiarity with tooling maintenance practices and specification writing
Experience with Catia V5 and general IT literacy
Strong communication skills across all levels
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or within a team
Desirable:
Experience with dimensional metrology systems (e.g., CMM, Laser Tracker, Faro Arm)
Familiarity with Spatial Analyzer, hydraulic/electrical systems, PLC diagnostics
Experience managing subcontractors and conducting condition assessments
Knowledge of mechanical engineering, 3D printing (Additive Manufacturing), and robotics
Proficiency in Google Suite/Microsoft Office, MDM-R vaulting, and software change management
Understanding of PPS, PFMEA, and machine directive legislation
